For Catholics, Lent is a 40 day journey of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, concluding with Easter Sunday. Through spiritual growth and self-denial, we are preparing ourselves to spiritually die with Christ on Good Friday, so that we can rise again with Him in new life on Easter. Let us continue this journey through Holy Week towards Easter. Through the sacraments of Confession and in receiving Holy Eucharist, we become a visible sign of our faith and our participation in the kingdom of God. …………...Christ is risen! Our regular monthly business meeting has been moved from Tuesday April 9 to Tuesday April 16 due to the Chrism Mass. The meeting room has also been changed. We will now be meeting in the main building classroom 109 from now on. Martha and I have been working on our next council fundraiser. We will be holding drawings for the Basket Bonanza Fundraiser (gift baskets). The tickets will be $5 each or 5 for $20 and the proceeds will go towards supporting our council’s charitable works. The first drawings will be held on Sunday, May 12th (Mothers Day) after the 1:00 Mass. Tickets for the drawings will be dis- tributed and everyone’s assistance in this fundraiser will be greatly appreci- ated. God bless All………. Jimmy Beasley I.H.M. MEMBERSHIP IN THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Membership is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is, practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See. This means that an applicant or member accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catho- lic Church, and is in good standing in the Catholic Church. Ask a family member or friend to join us today.

"Many people [in authority] oppose us, persecute us, and would like even to destroy us, but we must be pa-tient. As long as their commands are not against our conscience, let us obey them, but when the case is oth-erwise, let us uphold the rights of God and of the Church, for those are superior to all earthly authority."

“At the end of our life, we shall all be judged by charity.” St. John of the Cross

Ask Eligible Men to Join

Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great

fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international

level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity.

We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We

see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder’s Day, and again in October. These drives

are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and

after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every

Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order.

During the rest of the year, we often “forget” to ask men to join and to bring their families into the

Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today.

What if the only reason he hasn’t joined is because no one has asked him yet?

When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternal benefit:

our insurance program. This is often a “selling point” to a potential member who is on the fence.

Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after,

they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be mem-

bers.

The greatest reason to spread the Order comes down to what we all gain: through our involvement

with the Knights, we grow into better men, better husbands, better fathers, and better Catholics.

What a legacy we hold that we can pass on to others! Surely, you’d like the men you know to have

that opportunity as well.

As your brother and your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to help-

ing us grow in fraternity in any way that I can.

The protection of life is a sustained prayer intention of the Church, and in particular of the Knights of Columbus. Knights remain firmly committed to defending the right to life of every human being from the moment of conception to natural death. To commemo-rate and bolster this important cause, councils will promote a novena, nine days of sustained prayer, to build up a culture of life in our parishes, homes and wider community. Knights and their families will come together in both public and private acts of prayer to promote the protection of life. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Council 17083 will begin this 2nd Novena for Life on Saturday, April 6, 2019 to coincide with the ending of the 40 DAYS FOR LIFE Spring Campaign. We are also asking all Immaculate Heart of Mary parish families to join us in praying this novena.

The movie , UNPLANNED began showing in theaters here

in Las Cruces on Friday, March 29th. It is the story about a

former abortion worker/administrator, Abby Johnson who

had a drastic conversion and left the industry. Abby is now

a major pro-life advocate and is leading the fight to save

lives and bring an end to the industry.

The movie is scheduled to be in Las Cruces for only 2

weeks. Based on ticket sales, it could be extended for addi-

tional weeks. Please make every effort to see this powerful

movie and invite family, friends, and even our pro-choice

brothers and sisters. Lives will be changed.

Thank you Father God for being the Creator of my life and every life.

Please give me, and the society in which I live, an appreciation for your

gift of life. Please help us set aside our pride and acknowledge that we

need you. Show me how I can honor you today in response to all the

blessings you bestow so freely. In the name of Jesus…... Amen

God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect

and defend our freedom.

We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, whose nights are

haunted by memories too painful for the light of day.

We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm’s way. Shield them from danger and

bring them home.

Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of

peace. Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor!

May the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains and saves us!

Christ Jesus, hear us! Lord Jesus, hear our prayer!

Amen

Heavenly Father,

Bless our Church with an abundance of

holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers

and sisters. Give those You have called to

the married state and those You have cho-

sen to live as single persons in the world

the special graces that their lives require.

Form us all in the likeness of Your Son so

that in Him, with Him and through Him we

may love You more deeply and serve You

more faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through Christ our

Lord………...

Late Night Lecture An elderly man driving erratically was stopped by a deputy sheriff around 2 a.m. and was asked where he was going at that time of night. The man replied, "I'm on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late." The officer then asked, "Really? Who's giving that lecture at this time of night?" The man replied, "That would be my wife."

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.
