Hey guys i thought id share my first attempt at an ignition barrel repair.

As far as i know there are two types of failure-

1- the switch assembly backing falls out

2- the rotating and/or spring return fails.

I had a customer come in with the first mentioned failure and i thought id try repairing it and did so

succesfully

To repair remove the steering column assembly completely and secure correctly in vice

Firstly this is how it came in. The backing fell out and the internals ended up in the steering column

shroud

Here are the internals

1 pastic piece

4 springs (one i still in tge center of the plastic)

Two ball bearings (if they are lost cruch a bearing and use the balls out of that)

And a copper disk

First clean the barrel and regrease lightly. Then carefully place the balls in the spots shown

Then use a light smear of grease to hold in the springs as shown

Place the plactic piece and springs in.

This bit is tricky

Press the backing in carefully making sure the locating slots line up as shown

Hold firmly

And recrimp the surround

To prevent future failure i lightly used a pin punch to make sure the crimp was tight
