Instructions This card introduces you to the Ignation Examen, or Examen of Awareness. This prayer exercise was devised by Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) and is de-scribed in his book Spiritual Exercises. Ignatius felt that the examen was the most important of the spriritual exercises. Ignatius used the terms consolation and desolation in the examen. The questions would be: “When did you feel consolation?” and “When did you feel desolation?”. We ask them this way: “For what moment are you most grateful?” and “For what moment are you least grateful?”. You can ask the questions different ways: “When did you feel most alive?” and “When did you feel least alive?” or “When did you give and receive the most love?” and “When did you give and receive the least love?” or “When did you feel the most open to God?” and “When did you feel the least open to God?”. You are encouraged to pause each night and reflect on your day. On one line, record the moment you are least grateful for (and pray about that) and the moment you are most grateful for (and give thanks and pray).

Online Labyrinth On the bottom of page 12 there is a URL for an online prayer labyrinth. Go to the webpage and click on “online labyrinth”. You will be taken to a multi-media interactive prayer experience. Spend as much time there as you wish. My only comment would be to start with station 1. You may proceed in any order.
