The history of his life

• He was born in 1795 in Gödöllő in a noble family.

• At that time Hungary was part of the Austro- Hungarian Empire and his father sent him to Vienna to learn. He finished the Army Engineering Academy and became an excellent engineer for the Austrian (!) Army.

• However, in 1848 something happened: the Hungarians wanted independence of Austria, wanted to get rid of the Habsburgs.

• So, he had to decide which side he wants to stand next to: Hungary or Austria.

• The decision meant war: from 1848 to 1849 we were able to gain victories over the Habsburgs.

• Successful battles were in Gödöllő, too, but Ignác Török was not here.

• He had an important role: He was sent to Komárom (in the north of Hungary) and he had to strengthen the weak fortress to stop the Austrian army.

(He designed three fortresses which defended the whole city and you can see it in the next video)

• In January, 1849 he becomes the Captain of Komárom and General of the Hungarian Army.

• Meanwhile, the Habsburgs knew that Austria alone can’t defeat us. So they ‘’invited” the Russians to help them.

• In August, 1849 in a final battle we lost our war of independence.

• We had to give up fighting and put the weapons down. We did not put the weapons to the feet of the Habsburgs, but to the feet of the Russians.

• And revenge came…
