Cuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

30 de enero del 2022 Primera Lectura: En tiempo de Josías, el Señor me dirigió estas palabras: “Desde antes de formarte en el seno materno, te conozco; desde antes de que nacieras, te consagré como profeta para las naciones. (Jeremias 1: 4-5) En su llamado a ser profeta, el Señor le informa a Jeremías tanto de la resistencia humana como de la providencia divina que le espera. ¿Cuándo has sentido la presencia de Dios en medio de la confusión en tu vida? Salmo Responsorial 70: R. Señor, tú eres mi esperanza.

Segunda Lectura: Ahora tenemos estas tres virtudes: la fe, la esperanza y el amor; pero el amor es la mayor de las tres. (Corintios 13:13) Pablo define elocuentemente la virtud espiritual del "amor" para los cristianos de Corinto. ¿Qué tan bien vives según los estándares del amor según lo define Pablo?

Evangelio: “Yo les aseguro que nadie es profeta en su tierra. (Lucas 4:24) La gente de Nazaret se "llenó de furor" ante las palabras de Jesús. ¿Cómo te imaginas que Jesús reaccionó al ser rechazado por aquellos en su ciudad natal de Nazaret?

MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICO Ser cristiano es ser un profeta comprometido en el amor y en la esperanza. La Liturgia de hoy, por medio del profeta Jeremías, nos pone en alerta sobre este asunto del llamado de Dios al discipulado ya desde el vientre materno: “Antes de formarte en el seno de tu madre, ya te conocía; antes de que tú nacieras, yo te consagré, y te destiné a ser profeta de las naciones” (Jeremías 1,5). Para comprender con mayor claridad y poner ma-nos a la obra en este llamado, debemos recordar que, el domingo pasado, Jesús se encontraba en la sinagoga de Nazaret y sus últimas palabas del pasaje de la Escritura decían: “Hoy se cumplen estas palabras proféticas y a ustedes les llegan noticias de ello” (Lucas 4,21). Los que escuchaban a Jesús se admiraban de su elocuencia. ¡No lo podían creer! Ellos lo conocían, habían vivido a su alrededor, tenían familiaridad con él. Por lo menos sabían su oficio, “carpintero, hijo de José y María”. Jesús conocía sus pensamientos y responde: “Seguramente ustedes me van a recordar el dicho: Me-dico, cúrate a ti mismo. Realiza también aquí, en tu patria, lo que nos cuentan que hiciste en Cafar-naúm” (Lucas 4,23). ¿Por qué nadie es profeta en su tierra? Le pasó a Jesús y nos pasa muchas veces a no-sotros, hacemos el bien por ahí y cuando se dan cuenta los vecinos y la familia, viene el cuestionamiento y los comentarios sin saber realmente lo que la persona es, vive, o siente. O, mejor dicho, se ignora su compro-miso con el amor, como lo expresa San Pablo a los Corintios: “Ahora, pues, son válidas la fe, la esperanza y el amor: pero la mayor de estas tres es el amor” (1 Corintios 13,13). ©LPi

First Reading The word of the LORD came to me, saying: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. (Jer 1:4-5) In his call to be a prophet, the Lord informs Jeremiah of both the human resistance and the divine providence that lies ahead for him. When have you felt God’s presence in the midst of turmoil in your life? Psalm: I will sing of your salvation. (Ps 71) Second Reading: So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor 13:13) Paul eloquently defines the spiritual virtue of “love” for the Christians in Corinth. How well do you live by the standards of love as defined by Paul? Gospel: And he said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.” (Lk 4:24) The people of Nazareth were “filled with fury” at Jesus’ words to them. How do you imagine Jesus reacted to be-ing rejected by those in his hometown of Nazareth? GOSPEL MEDITATION St. Oscar Romero (1917-1980) was a “Salvadoran Roman Catholic archbishop who was a vocal critic of the violent activities of government armed forces, right-wing groups, and leftist guerrillas involved in El Salva-dor’s civil conflict (Encyclopedia Britannica).” As a voice of the voiceless, he was an outspoken champion of the poor who were the ones most affected by the civil unrest and violence. His advocacy provoked several at-tempts on his life. Nonetheless, St. Oscar Romero was convinced that before all else his faith in the resurrected Christ and the values of the Gospel trumped any earthly concern or worry. He walked with complete confi-dence and trust. On March 24, 1980, St. Oscar Romero was assassinated while celebrating Mass. Such is often the fate of those who challenge the socio-political agendas of the day. We may look at the example of witness of St. Oscar Romero as something extraordinary. In one sense it is. Through the power of God, an ordinary human being did extraordinary things. But, in and of himself, St. Oscar Romero was simply a humble, loving servant of God. Oscar knew not only the power of love but the risk that comes when loving unconditionally. The beauty of God’s message was able to shine in and through him be-cause he was able to step out of the way and be a vessel. One can assume that for St. Oscar Romero, one’s earthly life has no merit when faith, integrity, conviction, zeal and love are jettisoned. Fear and apprehension had no grip on this man who not only saw but spoke the truth. Do we speak the truth? It makes us feel good to speak of God as love. But have we ever considered the ramifi-cations of this radical message? There are assaults on human life occurring daily. More and more the value and worth of a human being is being reduced and minimalized. We are becoming widgets in the production of life. In our whole simple humble ways, we too are called to be prophets. Knowing who you are and what is within your means to do, how can you make God’s love real, stand up for what is right, and give witness to the sa-credness of all that is around you? ©LPi

VIVIR LA LITURGIA - INSPIRACIÓN DE LA SEMANA

Los profetas poseen un conocimiento íntimo de Dios y actúan de acuerdo con su experiencia de Dios. Los mensajes proféticos suelen desafiar el estatus quo y sacarnos de nosotros mismos, enfocándonos en el panora-ma completo. A menudo pensamos primero en nosotros mismos y en nuestras propias necesidades. Cuando escuchamos a alguien hablar, juzgamos el mérito del mensaje por su grado de utilidad. Si el mensaje o la vi-sión no contiene ningún beneficio o ganancia personal, sino un llamado a expandirnos y crecer, podemos in-dignarnos. Los profetas suelen ser aquellos cuyo mensaje nos desafía y nos llama a ver las cosas de manera diferente y amar de manera más perfecta y profunda. Dios es amor. Cuando escuchamos a San Pablo hablar sobre el amor, somos testigos del desarrollo del Dios perfecto incondicional, abnegado, y centrado en el otro. Es una invitación a la vida, la libertad y la felicidad que solo Dios nos puede ofrecer. Jesús, que es Dios y Amor encarnado, nos llama a esta expresión más rica de amor. ¿Estamos listos para escuchar y ser retados y desafiados?

A CORRESPONSABILIDAD DIARIA - RECONOCER A DIOS EN LOS MOMENTOS ORDINARIOS

Primera de Corintios y la Corresponsabilidad de las Redes Sociales “El amor es paciente, el amor es bondadoso…” Por muy familiares que sean estas palabras, nunca parecen desviarse al territorio de volverse triviales o tontas. En su esencia, comunican una verdad sobre nosotros y so-bre nuestro Creador que nunca deja de inspirar. Pero a pesar de que probablemente las hayas escuchado en muchas bodas a lo largo del tiempo, La primera de Corintios no es solo para recién casados. No fue escrita para personas casadas. Es para cada uno de nosotros, en cada estado de vida y cada situación social, en cada país, cultura e idioma en todo el mundo. Lo que significa que Primera de Corintios es incluso para el mundo en línea. Es para Facebook, Twitter e Ins-tagram y todas las demás plataformas que me estoy olvidando (parece que hay una nueva todos los días, ¿no es así?). Un sentido de división ya sea enraizado en la política, la cultura o cualquier otra cosa, está creciendo en nues-tro mundo, y nunca es más obvio que cuando observamos las interacciones en línea. LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Prophets possess an intimate knowledge of God and act on their experience of God. Prophetic messages usual-ly challenge the status quo and draw us up and out of ourselves, focusing us on the bigger picture. We often think of ourselves and our own needs first. When we listen to someone speak, we judge the merit of the mes-sage by its degree of usefulness. If the message or vision contains no personal benefit or profit but a call to stretch and grow, we can become indignant. Prophets are usually the ones whose message challenges us and calls us to see things differently and love more perfectly and deeply. God is love. When listening to St. Paul speak about love we witness the unfolding of this type of unconditional, other centered, self-sacrificial perfect God. It is an invitation to life, freedom, and happiness that can be offered to us only by God. Jesus, who is God and Love incarnate, calls us to this richer expression of love. Are we ready to listen and be challenged and stretched?

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

First Corinthians and the Stewardship of Social Media “Love is patient, love is kind …” As familiar as these words are, they never seem to stray into the territory of becoming trite or silly. At their core they communicate a truth about us and about our Creator that never fails to inspire. But despite the fact that you’ve probably heard it at many weddings over time, First Corinthians isn’t just for newlyweds. It wasn’t written for married folks. It’s for every single one of us, in every state of life and every social situation, in every country and culture and language across the globe. Which means that First Corinthians is even for the online world. It’s for Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and all the other platforms I’m forgetting (there seems to be a new one every day, doesn’t there?). A sense of division — whether rooted in politics, culture or anything else — is growing in our world, and it’s never more obvious than when we observe interactions online. It is far easier, after all, to remember what love is when a human being of flesh and blood stands before us. When all we see is an avatar or a profile picture on a screen — especially accompanied by an opinion with which we vehemently disagree — even the most lov-ing Christians can throw First Corinthians out the window. As everyday stewards we know that we are charged to be not only gracious but grateful. We receive others but we also give thanks for what they bring to us — even if that’s an opportunity to “strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.” So before the next time you post anything online, I suggest giving First Corinthians a read — and remember, love never fails. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Lecturas del Domingo 6 de Febrero, 2022 Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Primera Lectura: Isaías 6:1-2, 3-8 El año de la muerte del rey Ozías, vi al Señor, sentado sobre un trono muy alto y magnífico. La orla de su manto llenaba el templo. Había dos serafines junto a él, con seis alas cada uno, que se gritaban el uno al otro: “Santo, santo, santo es el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos; su gloria llena toda la tierra”. Temblaban las puertas al clamor de su voz y el templo se llenaba de humo. Entonces exclamé: “¡Ay de mí!, estoy per-dido, porque soy un hombre de labios impuros, que habito en medio de un pueblo de labios impuros, porque he visto con mis ojos al Rey y Señor de los ejércitos”. Después voló hacia mí uno de los serafines. Llevaba en la mano una brasa, que había tomado del altar con unas tenazas. Con la brasa me tocó la boca, diciéndome: “Mira: Esto ha tocado tus la-bios. Tu iniquidad ha sido quitada y tus pecados están per-donados”. Escuché entonces la voz del Señor que decía: “¿A quién enviaré? ¿Quién irá de parte mía?” Yo le respondí: “Aquí estoy, Señor, envíame”. Segunda Lectura: 1 Corintios 15:3-8, 11 Hermanos: Les transmití, ante todo, lo que yo mismo recibí: que Cristo murió por nuestros pecados, como dicen las Es-crituras; que fue sepultado y que resucitó al tercer día, según estaba escrito; que se le apareció a Pedro y luego a los Doce; después se apareció a más de quinientos hermanos reunidos, la mayoría de los cuales vive aún y otros ya murieron. Más tarde se le apareció a Santiago y luego a todos los apóstoles. Finalmente, se me apareció también a mí, que soy como un aborto. De cualquier manera, sea yo, sean ellos, esto es lo que nosotros predicamos y esto mismo lo que ustedes han creído.

Evangelio: Lucas 5:1-11 En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba a orillas del lago de Genesaret y la gente se agolpaba en torno suyo para oír la palabra de Dios. Jesús vio dos barcas que estaban junto a la orilla. Los pescadores habían desembarcado y estaban lavando las re-des. Subió Jesús a una de las barcas, la de Simón, le pidió que la alejara un poco de tierra, y sentado en la barca, ense-ñaba a la multitud. Cuando acabó de hablar, dijo a Simón: “Lleva la barca mar adentro y echen sus redes para pescar”. Simón replicó: “Maestro, hemos trabajado toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero, confiado en tu palabra, echaré las redes”. Así lo hizo y cogieron tal cantidad de pescados, que las redes se rompían. Entonces hicieron señas a sus compañeros, que estaban en la otra barca, para que vinieran a ayudarlos. Vinieron ellos y llenaron tanto las dos barcas, que casi se hundían. Al ver esto, Simón Pedro se arrojó a los pies de Jesús y le dijo: “¡Apártate de mí, Señor, porque soy un pecador!” Porque tanto él como sus compañeros estaban llenos de asombro al ver la pesca que habían conseguido. Lo mismo les pasaba a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que eran compañeros de Simón. Entonces Jesús le dijo a Simón: “No temas; desde ahora serás pescador de hombres”. Luego llevaron las barcas a tierra y, dejándolo todo, lo siguieron.

For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember that he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it, and said, “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am,” I said; “send me!” Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 11 Brothers and sisters, I handed on to you as of first im-portance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scrip-tures; that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. Gospel: Luke 5:1-11 While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. They sig-naled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that the boats were in danger of sinking. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him, and like-wise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were part-ners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.
