Please read the following instructions. Bicycle assembly is a complicated task, which requires training and experience. If you have any doubt regarding your mechanical ability and/or installation of this product, visit your local authorized dealer. Specialized recommends that the cable system be installed by a qualified mechanic. Failure to follow this warning may result in serious personal injury or death. Please read the following warnings. Failure to follow the warnings in this instruction guide may result in a catastrophic failure, resulting in serious personal injury or death. This phrase may not be repeated in connection with each and every warning. CABLE AND HOUSING PRE-INSTALLATION Frames with cables pre-installed: Routing sheaths are included in box for future cable replacements. Frames without cables pre-installed: Routing sheaths are pre-installed in the frame to facilitate the routing of the cable through the frame. To simplify the installation of replacement cables, the sheaths can be routed onto the cables and through the frame before removing the cables. Internal Cable Routing (ICR) stops for the rear brake: The stops are etched with the number “1” to differentiate them from the derailleur cable stops. NOTE: The cables can go from the shifters to either side of the down tube. If the cables cross to the opposite sides of the down tube, they will have to cross again inside the down tube. More than a single cross inside the down tube will cause the cables to wind around each other and impede proper shifting. INSTALLING THE DERAILLEUR HOUSINGS, BARREL ADJUSTERS AND CABLES 1. Decide to which side of the down tube each cable will be routed. 2. Cut the cable housing to the required length so that the handlebars can rotate fully past 90° in each direction without pulling on the housings. 3. Fig. 1: Cut and remove a section of housing (inset) that equals the inner length of the barrel adjusters (approximately 1”) at the desired location along the length of the housings. Avoid placing the barrel adjusters too close to the shifters or the ICR stops. INSTALLING THE DERAILLEUR CABLES IN THE FRAME 4. Remove the bottom bracket cable guide and the ICR stops on the sides of the down tube if present. Leave the sheaths; they are designed to ease installation of the cables. 5. Install the cable (A) in the shifter (B) as instructed in the shifter instruction guide (provided by the shifter manufacturer). 6. Fig. 1: Install the housing ferrule (C) and the first part of cable housing (D), followed by the barrel adjuster (E) and the second piece of housing (F). 7. Fig. 2: Run the cable (A) through the routing sheath (I) until it exits the down tube at the bottom bracket. 9. Repeat the steps for the second derailleur assembly. 10. Fig. 3: Remove the routing sheaths. ROUTING THE FRONT DERAILLEUR CABLE TO THE FRONT DERAILLEUR 11. Install the front derailleur on the frame as instructed in the derailleur manufacturer’s instruction guide. 12. Fig. 4: Route the front derailleur cable coming out of the down tube hole through the non-drive-side slot of the bottom bracket cable guide (K), and up through the tube extension (L). Install the rear derailleur on the frame as instructed in the derailleur manufacturer’s instruction guide. 14. Trim the rear derailleur cable housing to the required length for the rear derailleur to function properly. 15. Please read the following warnings. Failure to follow the warnings in this instruction guide may result in a catastrophic failure, resulting in serious personal injury or death. This phrase may not be repeated in connection with each and every warning.

CABLE AND HOUSING PRE-INSTALLATION

Frames with cables pre-installed: Routing sheaths are included in box for future cable replacements.

INSTALLING THE DERAILLEUR HOUSINGS, BARREL ADJUSTERS AND CABLES

INSTALLING THE DERAILLEUR CABLES IN THE FRAME

7. Fig. 1: Place the ICR stop (H) on the cable. The ICR stop should have a plastic mini-sheath (G) pre-assembled inside it.

8. Fig. 2: Run the cable (A) through the routing sheath (I) until it exits the down tube at the bottom bracket.

9. Repeat the steps for the second derailleur assembly.

10. Fig. 3: Remove the routing sheaths.

ROUTING THE FRONT DERAILLEUR CABLE TO THE FRONT DERAILLEUR

Make sure the cables are not crossing each other more than once inside the down tube.

ROUTING THE REAR DERAILLEUR CABLE TO THE REAR DERAILLEUR

13. Install the rear derailleur on the frame as instructed in the derailleur manufacturer’s instruction guide.

14. Trim the rear derailleur cable housing to the required length for the rear derailleur to function properly.

15. Fig. 4: Route the rear derailleur cable coming out of the down tube through the drive-side slot of the bottom bracket cable guide (M), then through the chainstay routing sheath (N).

16. Fig. 5, 6: Once the cable comes out the drive-side dropout hole, remove the routing sheath.

17. Fig. 7: Install the dropout ferrule (O) and mini-sheath (P), followed by a cable housing (Q) ferrule and the cable housing (R).

BOLTING THE CABLES, ICR STOPS AND BOTTOM BRACKET CABLE GUIDE

18. Fig. 8: Route the rear derailleur cable housing to the rear derailleur and insert the cable into the derailleur.

19. Fig. 9: With both derailleur cables routed, bolt the bottom bracket cable guide to the bottom bracket shell (S). The front derailleur cable vertical tube extension must be placed into its hole, followed by the rear derailleur cable tube horizontal tube extension into its chainstay hole.

20. Fig. 10: Bolt the ICR stops (H) to the down tube holes, using the supplied Allen key screws.

21. Bolt the cables to the respective derailleurs, as instructed in the derailleur manufacturer’s instruction guides.

INSTALLING THE BRAKE CABLE IN THE FRAME

22. Fig. 11: Install the cable (T), cable housing (U) and ICR stop (V). The ICR stop should have a plastic mini-sheath (W) pre-assembled inside it.

23. Fig. 11: Route the cable through the sheath (X) and through the brake ICR stop hole in the top tube (Y).

24. Fig. 12: Once the cable exits the sheath at the top tube / seat tube junction, remove the sheath and bolt the brake ICR stop.
