OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE 2015 SATURDAY 15th AUGUST IFSC CLIMBING WORLD CUP MUNICH 2015: SHAUNA COXSEY AND ALEXEY RUBTSOV TAKE GOLD IN THE LAST IFSC BOULDERING WORLD CUP OF THE SEASON IN MUNICH (GER) The competition took place in the city’s Olympic stadium, and the atmosphere was truly electric for the last IFSC Bouldering World Cup of the season! In the women’s field, all-time favourite Shauna Coxsey (GBR) took gold after a flawless performance, while outsider Alexey Rubtsov (RUS) secured first place after a tough male’s final. A triumph for Shauna Coxsey There are some final nights when one climber just seems to be too good. It was one of those nights for Shauna Coxsey, who managed to flash all four problems of the women’s finals. She climbed in a seemingly effortless manner, completely stealing the show in front of a mad crowd. It is a coronation for the British climber, who had not made it to the top of the podium so far this season. Fanny Gibert of France took silver, only one attempt ahead of Megan Mascarenas (USA), who completes the podium. A tough male’s final On the men’s side, the night was full of surprises, with all- time favourite Adam Ondra (CZE) not making final, and local favourite Jan Hojer (GER) finishing 5th. The men’s problems proved to be particularly tough, and Alexey Rubtsov was the only athlete to top two boulders, thus securing first place. Czech strongman Martin Stranik took silver, and Jongwon Chon of Korea came third. Akiyo Noguchi and Jongwon Chon are the 2015 Bouldering Champions We already knew that Akiyo Noguchi (JPN) had won the 2015 Bouldering IFSC World Cup Ranking, since she was more than a hundred points ahead of the other female competitors. Shauna Coxsey’s victory in Munich allowed her to secure the overall silver medal, while Miho Nonaka of Japan completes the overall podium. In the men’s field, the 2015 Bouldering IFSC World Cup Ranking remained uncertain until the very end, when Jongwon Chon managed to beat Jan Hojer in Munich, thus securing first place by a narrow margin. Consequently, Jan Hojer is second, and Adam Ondra is third.
