How it beganReed Hastings and Marc Randolph used to work at Pure Software, which made memory debugger programs for computer enginners.
In 1997, Reed Hastings rented the movie Apollo 13(VHS). When he forgot to return it on time, he had to pay a big, fat LATE FEE of about $40. He remembered that fee because he was “embarrassed about it.”
This got Hastings thinking about how big the market was, how many people paid late fees, and how much money wasted. He thought up of a movie rental business by mail.
DVDs were about to release and so Hastings went to Tower Record
