What is CSR ?

The Institution of Engineers (India) is a pioneer body of Professional Engineers encompassing 15 Engineering disciplines, with an overall membership of 7.60 lakhs. Established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Chapter in 1935, with it`s headquarter at Kolkata, it functions almost professional engineering fraternity through 104 centers across the Country and 5 centers Overseas

The Maharashtra State Centre of the Institution was founded in September 1921(as Bombay Association) just a few months after the formal inauguration of the Institution on

23 rd February 1921. In 1943, the Bombay Engineering Congress was amalgamated with the then Bombay Centre. In 1976 with the realignment of the Institutions Center's on the basis of the State boundaries, jurisdiction of Bombay Centre was extended to encompass the whole of Maharashtra State. The centre`s name was changed from Bombay Centre to Maharashtra State Centre.

Currently Maharashtra State has 10 Local Centres v iz Ahmednagar, Amravat i , Aurangabad, Belapur, Chandrapur, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune and Solapur

IEI, Maharashtra State Centre has the highest membership strength. The total Corporate and non-corporate membership strength of the centre as on 31-3-2013 is 1,01,822.

Water is a natural resource, fundamental to life, livelihood, food security and sustainable development. It is also a scarce resource. India has more than 17 percent of the world?s population, but has only 4% of

world's renewable water resources with 2.6% of world?s land area. The availability of water is limited but the demand of water is increasing rapidly due to growing population, rapid urbanization, rapid industrialization and economic development. In addition, there are in equalities in distribution and lack of a unified perspective in planning, management and use of water resources.

Water is required for domestic, agricultural, hydro-power, thermal power, navigation, recreation, etc. Utilisation in all these diverse uses of water should be optimized and an awareness of water as a scarce resource should be fostered. The Centre, the States and the local bodies (governance institutions) must ensure access to a minimum quantity of potable water for essential health and hygiene to all its citizens, available within easy reach of the household.

C. Renewable Energy and Energy

Consumption Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are continually replenished on a human timescale mainly as sunlight, wind, rain, geothermal heat. About 16% of global final energy consumption comes from renewable resources, with 10% of all energy from traditional biomass, mainly used for heating, and 3.4% from hydroelectricity. New renewable (small hydro, modern biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, etc) accounted for

another 3% and are growing rapidly.Energy conservation means making an effort to reduce the consumption of natural energy sources If we do not conserve energy, the energy will exhaust and we will have nothing to use. Also, energy conservation is also important when it comes to climate change. Currently, erratic climates and climatic changes are the greatest threats that we are facing today.
