B.1 Membership Development Activities
The membership data showing the different grades of members over the past 7 years are shown below.
10
Kerala Section Annual Report 2012
A few observations are worth noting here:1. As on 31 Dec 2012, the section membership stands at 5756, including 1118
professional grade members. 2. The professional membership growth has increased to a percentage of 47.7 %. 3. The Section membership has a significant contribution of 81.9% from student
community including Graduate Student Member and Student Member.
In every program conducted exclusively by the Section, the welcome address by any of the Section Office bearers would include a talk on IEEE, its activities, and the benefits of being a member. Also the Section has realized that the best way to increase membership is to retain student members as regular members and has focused on GOLD activities to target this community. Following programs were conducted as part of membership development activity:
IEEE & WiE Awareness Session at NPOL on 21 March 2012 at NPOL, Kochio Awareness session on IEEE and IEEE WiE AG to the women scientists of
NPOL (Naval Physical & Oceanographic laboratory- a wing of DRDO), Kochi
IEEE & IEEE GOLD Awareness at Lourde Matha College of Engineering and Technology, Trivandrum on 22 March 2012.
o Awareness session was given to the final year students of LMCST, Trivandrum and a talk was delivered on the topic “How IEEE can benefit you”
Colloquium on Perspectives of Professional Development on 17 April 2012 at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thrissur
o to promote IEEE membership among faculty of Engineering colleges and Post Graduate Students.
B.2 Chapter Activities
There are four technical society chapters in the Section. They are:1. Computer Society Chapter2. Communication Society Chapter3. Industrial Automation, Industrial Electronics, Power Electronics Joint Chapter4. Power & Energy Society Chapter
