Analysis of 3 idents

Idents

An ident is a short promotional sequence/ video which is shown on TV to identify the channel showing the series or film about to be viewed.

Ident 1 - Netflix

This ident is featured at the start of the shows, and takes up the entire screen. It is very simple and straightforward only featuring the name, with a slight animation against a white background. The lighting is edited so all the focus is on the name. It is also positioned in the centre, all of this allows it to have full attention and completely eye catching.

Ident 2 - f

The ITV idents always feature a small video before the ident name slowly fades on the side of the screen in large text. The actions or situation featured are always simple and straight forward for example with this one, just a rescue team on a speed boat, and after a short while the itv logo appears. It also always features colours of the surroundings, so with this example it goes with blue, taking colour from the sea and the sky.

Ident 3 - BBC 2

BBC 2 always features a large 2, which relates to its surroundings, for example a jungle scenery, the 2 will be made out of plants. In this version it takes inspiration from ‘Doctor Who’ a popular series featured on BBC 2, eventually near the end of the short sequence, the BBC 2 logo appears on the bottom. The main attraction is always the large 2 the screen focus’s on, letting audiences know exactly which company it is.
