Pop Music

Pop Subgenres:• Teen Pop Music: A type of music which is specifically targeted at teenagers,

teen pop music can also include: R&B and hip pop music. A big thing included into Teen Pop music is a lot of choreographed dancing. The subjects of this music can be hugely related to the issues that teens go through in their lives, some examples of these are: love/relationships, finding who you are, friendships, fitting in and all together growing up completely.

• Pop Rock: This is a combination of pop and rock music together. Mostly using a catchy pop style with ‘light’ lyrics to go along with it, this will mostly be guitar based rock songs. This is often referred to as a slower and more mellow form of rock music.

R&B Music:

R&B Music subgenres:• Motown: Both a style of music and a label. An upbeat and

often it is a pop influenced style of rhythm and blues. • Soul: A kind of music incorporating elements of rhythm and

blues, gospel music and often will include jazz. This form of music has always been popular for listening and dancing particularly in the United States.

• Funk: This music is created through a mixed sounds of soul, jazz and R&B. This style of music then brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums.

• Disco: This is a form of popular dance music, it is melodic with a regular bass beat.
