Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care provides supportive and end of life care for adult patients and families living with a terminal illness, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Every day we support over 250 patients and relatives - in their own homes, in the community, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford, through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support.

All of our services are provided free of charge to patients and families, but as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of our costs, we have to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to do this, and therefore rely heavily on the support and generosity of our local community - people like you.

One thing that remains constant is our commitment to compassionate care and support...because every day is precious.

Make sure you…

• Set up a company JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving page.

• Order any resources needed (balloons, posters, collection tins etc).

• Ask if your company offers a Matched Giving scheme – this can

double the amount you raise.

• Call or email our team for any digital resources (such as our logo).

• Set a fundraising target.

• Get your fundraising in the staff newsletter, send an all-staff email, and add it to your intranet, website, social media sites and anywhere else people will see it and be inspired!

• Get a director to shout about it.• Put posters up everywhere and

hand out flyers.• Ask everyone to choose at

least one activity to take part in - and sign a pledge card!

• Publish a calendar of fundraising ideas to help people plan their fundraising.

• Auction or raffle - a day’s leave, an afternoon off, or just not having to make the teas for a week!

• Jailbreak - lock the bosses in a meeting room with just their mobile phones. Offer to release them when they have raised a set amount from all of their contacts.

• Caption competition – take photos of staff doing something unusual and ask people to submit a caption - for a fee!

• Spot the Boss – bring in baby photos and guess who’s who.

walker, the car-cleaning expert and the perfect dinner host, then

hold a live or silent auction of promises.

Give one of our ‘donation stations’ a

home in your meeting room, office,

reception or staff canteen. These

cardboard donation stations hold approximately 20 full donation

bags of stock, come with a supply of bags and Gift Aid forms to

distribute amongst your staff, and are emptied on a regular basis by

our friendly collection drivers. We can provide supporting leaflets and

posters to raise awareness amongst your staff and visitors.

Cari and Chris’s StoryAfter being diagnosed with lung cancer, Chris’s wife, Cari, lost her battle aged just 53. She spent her final days at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.Chris recalls: “It was devastating news. Within three days of seeing the doctor about a three-month cold that Cari couldn’t shake, she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, admitted to intensive care and given up to six months to live”.“It affected me really badly obviously, and I just remember thinking that I wanted to get her out of the hospital and home”.After some persuasion from friends and family, Chris agreed that to look after Cari at home would be too much for him, and he sought a place at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The following day Cari was transferred to the Hospice from the hospital.Chris continues, “Arriving at the Hospice was very different than I had imagined. Cari’s room had a TV and a shower; it felt like a five-star hotel and was very peaceful. We

I couldn’t believe it – just how caring and nice everyone was, to both of us”.Sadly Cari died just two days after being admitted to the Hospice. “The Hospice and the counselling they offered has really helped me come to terms with Cari’s death. To this day, I enjoy visiting the Hospice and I find great solace walking in the gardens”.
