IDEA PARTNERSHIP LEADING BY CONVENING YOUTH EMPOWERMENT On January 15 2014, participants formed groups to customize the technical and adaptive elements of the Leading by Convening, Blueprint for Authentic Engagement, Resource (http://bit.ly/LeadingbyConvening). This one-pager encompasses the guiding questions proposed on the topic of youth empowerment. T RANSITION While the focus of the conversation was on youth empowerment, transition is the building block of the conversation. There were three questions raised, that many young people of all abilities, are asking themselves: E NGAGEMENT There are numerous interconnected components to consider, when promoting authentic engagement: ! Who will you invite? Are all stakeholders represented and/or afforded the opportunity to be represented? ! How will you meaningfully engage the participants? ! Who is going to drive the conversation? C OMMUNICATION A discussion took place with the typical ways we communicate with various stakeholders. We must identify the effectiveness in communicating with one another: ! Is blasting out e-mails – information push-out – deepening youth engagement? How can we better connect with young people? ! What is the role of Webinars to enhance educational awareness and skill building in transition-related engagements? ! How can we lessen the technological divide between the two generations: adult allies and young people? P ARTNERSHIPS Partnerships are key for truly engaging students in school processes, such as the IEP development, implementation and re-assessment stages. Some prompts to consider, especially with the IEP Process: ! How do adult allies support but not overpower, young people? ! In which ways do we germinate partnerships that engender trust, collaboration and mutual investment to support the young person? ! How do we meaningfully incorporate individual and collective reflection, to celebrate our successes, identify our challenges and propose enhancements for the future? IDEA PARTNERSHIP LEADING BY CONVENING – YOUTH EMPOWERMENT On January 15 2014, participants formed groups to customize the technical and adaptive elements of the Leading by Convening, Blueprint for Authentic Engagement, Resource (http://bit.ly/LeadingbyConvening). TRANSITION While the focus of the conversation was on youth empowerment, transition is the building block of the conversation. There were three questions raised, that many young people of all abilities, are asking themselves:

ENGAGEMENT There are numerous interconnected components to consider, when promoting authentic engagement:

! Who will you invite? Are all stakeholders represented and/or afforded the opportunity to be represented?

! How will you meaningfully engage the participants?

! Who is going to drive the conversation?

COMMUNICATION A discussion took place with the typical ways we communicate with various stakeholders. We must identify the effectiveness in communicating with one another:

! Is blasting out e-mails – information push-out – deepening youth engagement? How can we better connect with young people?

! What is the role of Webinars to enhance educational awareness and skill building in transition-related engagements?

! How can we lessen the technological divide between the two generations: adult allies and young people?

PARTNERSHIPS Partnerships are key for truly engaging students in school processes, such as the IEP development, implementation and re-assessment stages. Some prompts to consider, especially with the IEP Process:
