Start documenting and keeping detailed notes on their idea and process

Notes should be kept in bound notebooks or

composition books, entries should be handwritten and dated, and pages should be signed by witnesses. These notes will serve as proof of when and how and inventor came up with and developed their idea. It is evidence that this idea belongs to them.

These notes will be used when it is time to apply for a patent, and will also be used in case there is a challenge to an inventor's ownership of an idea.

Inventors do not always have to have a prototype at this point, but can instead use patent drawings, or even 3D renderings of their products, which can be attained through Idea Design Studio.
