By the time you read this, contractual issues should have been resolved and rollout should begin for those schools who expressed an interest at our ‘roadshow’ meeting last term. It was the government’s intention that all children have an online learning space by March 2008! E-safety Once again I can offer training from Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre (CEOP) to KS3 children if they have not already received this. I am happy to discuss what might be offered to other age groups and would welcome the opportunity to talk to staff, governors and parents. Contact [email protected] KS1 staff might be interested in the animations and lesson ideas to be found in Hector’s World at www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7 (note the _ between 5 and 7). CEOP are saying that they get reports from children as young as 5! This might be a good moment to suggest that the world is not getting more dangerous but that the risks have altered. Thinking guides Find resources http://ulearn.infomapper.com is a new site from Infomapper. In the free section many of the over 30,000 resources have been submitted and published by teachers and students and can be easily adapted for your own use. I recently received an email about www.schoolstube.co.uk I understand this is a free resource to individuals although there is a cost to schools. British PatheYou will no doubt have seen the letter saying that this excellent resource is no longer free. If you have any films obtained under the old licence they should be destroyed by the end of July 2009.

CPD

This term there are a number of CPD opportunities listed as usual in the Training and Development Programme Overview and on Eduwight. They include:

Wed 24th Sept New and aspiring ICT subject leaders’ course

Comments from last year’s students on this course, worth 30 points at Masters level, have been used in a national mailing by NAACE to promote it more widely. It comprises two full days and four twilights and the first session is a full day on Wednesday 24th September so get your applications in quickly.

Wed 5th Nov Podcasting This is a repeat of the successful course that ran earlier this year. It quick look at what we might use podcasting for in schools and then an opportunity to get hands on and create and upload a sound file. Only free software and hosting is used. All sectors welcome.

Tues 18th Nov ICT Subject Leader Development Meeting (Secondary Strategy)

SLDM 11 focussing on the aims:• To explore the relationship

between the ICT Framework learning objectives, functional ICT and pedagogy

• To revisit, review and reflect on a range of teaching approaches

• To support subject leaders in improving the quality of teaching and learning within their departments
