The Visual Analysis Group continue to workwith Teachers, Coaches and Physical EducationAdvisors to identify where and how VisualAnalysis can best be used for immediate benefit ineducation. There are several programmes beingsold in the education sector which differ in price, functionality and ease of use.

The major problem facing many Teachers andCoaches is how to incorporate these powerfulteaching aids into their lessons. Our aim thereforeis to help schools obtain the maximum advantagefrom this powerful and exciting opportunity aswell as ensuring that there is a cost effective wayin which pupils can have access to this facility.

Two key areas were clearly identified where itwas felt that visual analysis would be ofconsiderable value to both teachers and pupils

AssessmenfEvery pupil is regularly assessed to ensure thatindividual development is being achieved.

Stndents Name: Sarah Kitching

The main difference between Sarah and our professional player is that the Pro has got herself into a muchstronger position to return the ball. She has done this by preparing early, getting herself behind theincoming ball and then moving forward onto the baii as she makes the return shot.

Lets look at some of the object tools and how they differ between the 2 players

1. Both players are looking at the ball as they make contact - Good2. Look how much earlier and lower our Pro player is at contact point. This will help her create more

topspin by driving her legs up through the shot3. Sarah's body weight is travelling across the court rather than into the rettrn shot. This will mean

that she has to work very hard to achieve a good return4. Sarah's none playing hand is very close to her body which is effecting her balance as she strikes

the ball

HOW CAN VISUAL ANALYSIS HELPYOU TEACH PE EFFECTIVELY?

By using VisualAnalysis teachers, coaches and pupils can accelerate the understanding anddevelopment of movement. Encouraging students to use the software will motivate them totake an active part in PE. You can inspire your pupils, which will improve standards and excitetheir thinking and develop their understanding of PE. Using VisualAnalysis will build a bank ofclips that can be used as an assessment framework for teachers.

The following table shows the extensive features included in MotionCoach and how they willbenefit and help you teach PE.

There are 2 areas of MotionCoach. Firstly the area to store andmanipulate the footage. Secondly the Motion Analysis area whereyou can analyse the footage and use to improve standards andassess students.

Capture and Record Within the VisualAnalysis software you can instantly capture andrecord your footage. You can then instantly save the clip ready tomanipulate and analyse. By saving the clips within the gallery youwill have immediate access to the footaqe vou need.

Action Replay andDelayed Capture

Action Replay allows you to immediately show the footagecaptured to your students. Delayed Capture is where you candelay the footage taken so that the next pupil can get ready toperform the activity. The impact for you is combining delayedcapture and action replay so that after the pupil has completedthe activity they can review the footage and look for ways toimprove and then try aqain.

Editing A Clip You can edit your clips so that they are easy to use and show thefootage you need to teach your students. By reducing your clips ittakes out any irrelevant footage. You can also compress the filesso that they do not take up as much space on your computer orhard drive.

Motion Blend This is where you can overlay 2 students to compare thedifference in their performance. This will increase the students'awareness of how thev need to improve.

Motion Freeze ls where the footage is shown frame-by-frame all in one image. This tool is useful because students can look at different stages ofthe movement to see how to improve.

Motion Extract This is a development from the Motion Blend where you canextract the background. This is ideal if the Motion Blend has 2backgrounds and therefore the footage is distorted and not easyfor the students to focus on the kev movements.

lmporting A Clip This allows you to store and analyse other footage from othersources.

Measuring Speed

@

You can measure the speed of a moving image, such as a cricketball. This is great for linking the software to Maths and Physics. ltgives students accurate data to buil

rogrammeto help you get started and answer any questions you may have.

Also known as Motion CAD, this is where you can analyse thefootage taken. You can import clips into the analysis area andplay the footage. You can also select pre sets for the footage forexample if you were showing a class contact point. You can alsoslow the down or the to show continuousThis is where you can change the athlete from a right-hander to aleft-hander. This is of enormous benefit if you are teaching and

inq a left and riqht-hander.From the footage you have taken you can select a still image, which will give you images frame by frame. This is a great toolfordisplays or coursework. You can also write comments, givinguidance on the movement.

You can select multiple footage and analyse different studentsand movements. This is a great way to either select a clip of goodpractice and compare other students. Or alternatively get a groupof students to their individualTo highlight a particular part of the clip when comparing athletesyou can draw lines to the key points. You can also draw shapes, which for example can be used to highlight foot position ordirection of the students' hips. As well as drawing lines you canuse lines to measure the o f aThis is a great feature allowing you to incorporate these familiarpackages. You can then write comments alongside the clips withaction steps on how students can improve and what to work onnext. This also can be used to set up work sheet templates andused in ilino coursework. You can a voice over to your clips. This wil! enable you to addcomments or hiqhli on lesson olans. You can add to Motion CAD a live image from your camera. Forexample if you want to compare the progress from last week tothe current lesson. You can design templates that can be used as lesson plans, worksheets or for students to use in their coursework. You can also design an assessment framework for your school byrecording your students and identifying best practice at the
