CRT Monitor (Cathode Ray Tube Monitor)CRT stands for cathode ray tube, describing the technology inside an analog computer monitor or television set. A CRT monitor or TV is readily recognizable by its bulky form.

TFT Monitor (Thin-Film Transistor)Applied when space is limited. e.g. small officesWhere only 1 person needs to view the screen such as individual workstations

Popular in schools and business.Fast, quiet, for large quantities of printing.Lowe chemical emissionNot that good of a quality.

Ink-jet Printerthe normal everyday printer.Relatively cheap.Produce high-quality printing.Popular for home use.Meant for small quantities of printing

RouterConnects networks and forwards data from 1 network to another.e.g. Used to connect a home network to internet.Wi-Fi router connects a cable LAN to a wireless network.

Wi-FiUsed in wireless LANAllows wireless exchange of data over a distance of 10 to 20 m.Useful for laptops games consoles, TVs, printers and digital cameras.

Hubs and SwitchesConnect network devices together in a LAN segment.Broadcasts messages from 1 device to all others.Switch inspects the data received and forwards it to appropriate device.

BridgesConnect 2 different LAN segmentsPasses messages from 1 segment to the other.

BroadbandAny data communication channel that has a wide bandwidth.Can carry a large quantity of data.

ISP (Internet Service Providers)Organizations providing users with the link, or PoP to the internet.

Proxy ServersUsed on the internet to improve the performacnes of Web services of multiple clients.e.g. It requests webpages from the website and gives to client.If different client requests the same page, can be returned to the cache rather than requesting it again.

Type of Networks=> Networks are classified depending on the distance they cover.

LAN (Local Area Network)Computers on the same site. up to 500 m apart.Linked to a router that is wired into the network.A wireless LAN is called a WLAN.

WAN (Wide Area Network)Several kilometres apart.e.g. Internet.

ICT in BankingCredit Card

Paying money from our acc.We have to pay them back at the end of the month.

Debit CardPaying money from our savings acc.

Cash CardCan be used to withdraw money from the ATM.

EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)When paying for sth in shops using credit/debit cardsPayment transferred from your account to bank account

EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer Point of Sale)Where EFT happens.e.g. in checkout stills in supermarkets.
