Dear friends, February 15, 2020
On behalf of my entire ICSR committee, I wish your family a very healthy
and prosperous 2020. I am privileged, excited and honored to serve as your
President for the year 2020. As president, I am proud of the work we do and how
we go about doing it. ICSR is committed to helping our community through diverse
events and cultural programs throughout the year. I want to congratulate our
outgoing 2019 President Mr. Anil Mandapaka who was successful in bringing and
preserving our cultural heritage and raising the bar through hard work and
dedication. Although we had found great success with our 2019 events, I am excited
to announce that ICSR will have an increased focus on community and youth
participation this year. To encourage community involvement with ICSR activities,
I request the community to reach out to any ICSR committee members for your
volunteer commitment. I encourage all the youths to participate with our Youth Wing
committee members. Youth Wing mentors have expertise in different fields and have
agreed to help youths to develop their skills including the use of social media, writing
about Indian heritage, learn the techniques to capture photographs of all ICSR events,
connecting with our alumni network, and helping at the membership drive. The youth
volunteers would be socially connecting with our community, increase awareness
about ICSR and Indian culture.
ICSR 2020 first event, “Vasant Utsav” is around the corner and scheduled for
Saturday, March 7th, followed by Holi in April and the Cultural Program in May. I
hope to see you all with your family and friends on March 7th to welcome and
celebrate spring at the Palisades Mall Community Center. I request all your support
to ICSR by showing up in large numbers. I assure you that the evening will be filled
with lovely multilingual music and delicious food.
Our generous sponsors are the reason ICSR can plan and bring together all
these events for the year. Lots of time, effort, energy and money are required to
sustain the existence of this nonprofit organization. Many of our events are free and
the rest are highly subsidized. A nominal membership fee of $50 per family, revenue
collection from advertisements, raffles and tickets hardly make it enough to bare half
of the total expenses. I look forward to receiving continued moral and financial
support from our community and sponsors in year 2020 and beyond.
All the ICSR work is possible with the outstanding 2020 committee, who
dedicate endless hours in bringing these events.
Thank you all for your faith and cooperation in the ICSR effort to promote
Indian heritage and become an asset to society. I appreciate you taking the time to
visit the ICSR website and encourage you to do so frequently to learn more about
ICSR and our community. With best regards,
Dr. Basavaraj Balapal

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year 2020!
On behalf of ICSR, I am excited to present our 1st Newsletter for 2020 (information also available on www.icsronline.com) which includes information on our upcoming events, community announcements and a message from our newly elected President Dr. Basavaraj Balapal. The work has already begun, and our entire committee is looking forward to serving its community with the help and support of our Youth Wing Volunteers and make this year another memorable one. The Year 2019 was yet another very successful year for ICSR. At every event, the participation from our community was at its record high. We had over 500 persons enjoying the Navaratri Night celebrated on October 13th. The Annual Diwali Dinner & Dance was also a houseful event held on November 17th at Crown Plaza in Suffern, NY attended by members of all ages who got to enjoy the street food corner and fine dining together with Live Band entertainment.
ICSR feels very proud to also have held the annual event “YOUTH MEET (Career and College Planning Night)” on Nov 23rd at the Palisades Mall Community Center where the middle and high school students got to meet a Speaker Panel consisted of ICSR Youth from different fields of work sharing and exchanging their experiences, wisdom and success stories with one another. It was truly inspiring for all who witnessed.
As we head into 2020 events, our new committee under the leadership of Dr. Basavaraj Balapal is prepared and excited to bring you
lots of fun filled and spectacular family events throughout the year. We’re less than a month away from our event “Vasant Utsav” scheduled for Saturday March 7th followed by “Holi” on April 19th. We encourage you to spread the word around and help us make these events more and more successful.

Five professionals will mentor these volunteers through the course of
the year in the following areas:
Abhineet Jha & Ramesh Bonam: Development of Skills in Event Photography: After
capturing ICSR events for past few years, it’s time to share the tips and tricks of photography with our young talented volunteers. As a collaborative team, the photography wing of ISCR’s Youth Program will get hands on experience from learning camera basics to capturing memorable moments at ICSR events. They will learn to work as a team, develop interpersonal and leadership skills while engaging with members of the community.
Nikita/Rajiv Rohilla: Publicity and Membership drives: Committed to connecting our community
to its culture and the values it creates for our members of all ages and ultimately to increase our membership. Develop interpersonal skills, acquire more knowledge, confidence and develop an all-round personality of our youth which will help us secure a better future.
Suresh Iyer: Developing alumni network: Alumni had contributed immensely when they were younger, and
we are thankful to them. ICSR is what it is due to all their enthusiasm and spirit. The objective of forming ICSR Alumni group is to foster the spirit of giving in the form of sharing experiences and information that they have gained to the new kids at the cusp of starting college and their parents. Additionally, this will strengthen the ties between alumni and ICSR community as well as help in growing the ICSR family.
Charu Krishan: Creative Writing & Social Media Promotions: ICSR Youth Wing continues to
work on spreading awareness about the organization through social media and promotional campaigns. The volunteers are being coached to create written and graphic content to maintain ICSR’s online cultural synopsis series about travel, arts and heritage. The idea is to provide a platform to for them to explore creative writing, practice safe and practical cyber use, actively contribute towards the organization & generate a stronger sense of belonging to ICSR and Indian culture in general.

Culture and Art enhance the quality of our lives. This is particularly true to all Indians as we come from a land steeped in
traditions and culture. As Indian Americans, we strive to keep this alive so that we can pass this to our children.
The India Cultural Society of Rockland has been passionately keeping the torch of Indian culture alive in the tri-state area since 1972. ICSR is instrumental in promoting Indian culture and heritage to local Indian and American community, through various events organized throughout the year.
The ICSR committee runs on the advice, time and energy provided by volunteers within the community. However nothing can be accomplished without your participation and monetary support. Your support will go a long way in helping ICSR achieve its mission as well as expand its programs and services.
