THE INTERVIEW Have fun with the talks

JUNE, 2014 VOL 1 # THE BUILDING TEAM #

Q: What is the key to your success?

A: Always have passion on things I do.

Go for it and love what I do. The more

I work, the more I gain, the more

passion I have.

Q: Do you, as a landscape architect, sometimes

get some sort of a writer’s block? If so, how do

you overcome this?

A: Take a break. Travel around to freshen up

my mind as well as to seek new ideas. Face the

problem and never stop thinking.

Q: Life can get very hectic as an architect

with project after project and us as

university students are beginning to have a

taste of that wonder how do you balance

your working hours and your personal

time?

A: Finish your task within the time given.

Sometimes, it won’t be that efficient if you

stretch your working hours for too long.

Plan and manage your time well.

Q: How would you link your client’s needs with your

creative ideas?

A: Understand the clients’ needs first. Then, we

convince them with our ideas which suit them the

best. It’s not always clients are right or the

architects are right. But we have to always listen to

the clients first.

Q: With all these pressures and your hectic

schedule, what is your motivation to continue

what you do?

A: Passion is the most vital component in our

profession. Love it to the maximum and you shall

find the way to deal with it.

Q: As a landscape architect, are you usually

compared to the gardener? If so how would

you draw the line of comparison and debunk

the myth that landscape architects are

gardeners?

A: Landscape architects come in first to design

the spaces. We must have deep knowledge on

trees and plants. The gardeners are the ones

who maintain the landscape and its functions.
