The National Gallery of Iceland was established in 1884. The National Gallery’s main role is to collect, preserve, research and exhibit Icelandic art.

The Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum exhibits works by Icelandic sculptor Sigurjón Ólafsson (1908 – 1982) in the artist’s former studio at Laugarnes.

Ásgrímur Jónsson (1876 – 1958) is one of the pioneers of Icelandic art. The Ásgrímur Jónsson Museum hosts the artist’s studio and home. The museum regularly holds exhibitions of the artist’s works.

Núllið occupies the underground space of a former female public lavatories, which are culturally protected and have been renovated and opened up again for the public as an exhibition space with the aim of promoting contemporary art.

The Icelandic Folk and Outsider Art Museum

Fjúk is a series of artist-run spaces in the old hook-baiting houses of Húsavík harbor. One exhibition area has unusual wooden cladding whilst another is set in an old walk-in fridge. Monthly open studios showcase the work of the artists in residence.
