Iceland 2012
Its time to get excited!
The departure
Depart RHC at 6.00 am (yes I know that’s horrible) to check in at Gatwick by 11:00 am and then fly to Iceland on the Iceland Express flight
HCC502 leaving at 1330.
Essentials
• Passport (valid for 3 months from return date)• EHIC https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do • Sleeping bag and pillowcase• Walking shoes / boots• Warm clothes (Coat / hat / scarf / gloves)• Swim wear and towel• Toiletries and underwear!
Worth considering
• Sunglasses and lip balm • Camera• Adaptor plug (same as rest of Europe)• MP3 player / book for the flights and coach
journeys• Snacks like biscuits and crisps to save buying
them• Flask
Medical stuff
• Please make sure the yellow medical and consent forms are filled in and returned before the trip.
• If anything changes between handing it in and going on the trip, please let us know
• We will take a first aid kit, but you need to take any medication or tablets you might need as we cannot give you paracetamol etc.
Money
• There are a couple of opportunities to buy snacks, but they are expensive
• We stop for souvenirs twice, but there is not really a shopping opportunity
• Iceland is the most expensive place in Europe – bring snacks with you
• You may also want some British money for the airport and service stations
Parental Contact
• Contact details: to contact us in Iceland during college hours call the main college number and for outside of college hours there will be an emergency contact, the students will be given a slip with our college mobiles on it the week before we go.
Alcohol
• Do not bring alcohol, the drinking age is 21 so it will be illegal for you to have it and it will get confiscated.
• If you are found with alcohol, we will arrange a taxi back to the airport for you, and you will be sent home.
Day one: Blue Lagoon
• On to the Reykjanes peninsular and the Blue Lagoon
• Then to our accommodation at the Fosshótel Baron
• Icelandic Meal at the Café Paris in the Old Quarter of Reykjavik.
Day 2: rift valley, caving in a lava tube, geysir and gullfoss
Day 3: “Sea, water and Ice Day”
Day 4: Glaciers, waterfalls and Jokulsarlon

Day 5: Glacier walking, geothermal power station and pizza contest
• Glacier walking on the Sólheimajökull with adventure company www.adrenalin.is
• Visit to Glass houses at Hveragerði and fissure in the PO floor and earthquake simulator.
• Back to Reykjavik for visit the Pearl and Cathedral and shops if time.
• To the Fosshótel Baron• Eat-all-you can Pizza challenge
at Pizza place for last night.
Day 6: Coming home
• Flight HCC501 departs at 9.00 hrs arriving back at Gatwick at 12.00
