HISTORY

The group joined the Lipa Community for meetings and retreats with a diocesan priest as retreat master. The head of the group was called a prioress.

The Balayan Community started in the 70s as a group of frequent churchgoers, mostly women. They were called “tertiaries’ or members of the Third Order of Carmel.

Page 6: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

The members went to Mass and prayed the Liturgy of the Hours together in the church. The Rule of Life served as guide in spiritual growth.

When the term of Eddie Custodio as Prioress of Lipa Chapter, ended sometime in the 90s, Fr. Bernard Ybiernas OCD, then Provincial Superior, requested her to form a foundation in Balayan that gave birth to a chapter independent of Lipa.

HISTORY

The Balayan Community was formally established on January 25, 1995 with fifty members including aspirants, and with Fr. Dan Fauste OCD as the Spiritual Assistant.

He gave talks on the lives of the Carmelite saints and discussed the Rule of Life at monthly meetings of the Community held every last Sunday at the Immaculate Conception College. He introduced the study of the books Welcome to Carmel and Springs of Carmel.

HISTORY

The year 1997 was historic to the community. The first Council was elected; the formal formation classes started in June with a syllabus provided by Fr. Dan; levels of formation were set up and the Community was introduced to the doctrines of Sts. Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross and Therese of the Child Jesus.

Fr. Arnold ‘Arnie’ Boehme OCD took over in July 1999 as the Community’s spiritual assistant.

Page 9: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

On December 14, 2000, feast of St. John of the Cross, the Community had a great celebration; the first ceremonial under the Formation Program given by Fr. Dan and the groundbreaking for the prayer house were held, with Fr. Arnie officiating.

Page 10: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

After Fr. Arnie’s three year term ended, the Community continued to do well for two years without a spiritual assistant. Community meetings and formation classes continued. Formators attended the lecture series initiated by then Provincial Delegate Fr. Cornelio Jaranilla OCD conducted in the different regions.

Page 11: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

The construction of the prayer house was sustained

Delegates were sent to participate in the creation of OCDS Philippines.

Fr. Andre Querijero OCD served as Spiritual Assistant to the Community for more than a year. He gave talks on the ways of evaluating the inner self, gave a deepened understanding of the Interior Castle and the practice of silence and meditation.

Page 12: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

Before he left for his foreign mission in 2005, Fr. Andre celebrated with the community it’s 10th year of foundation.

In the same year, the third set of Council officers were elected, this time with more defined areas of responsibilities for the Councilors.

Moreover, with many of the old members passing away, an awareness of the need to do vocation campaign for new members was stirred.

Page 13: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

The year 2006 saw the holding of regional cluster meetings in full swing. This was held every three months with the Balayan Community hosting the first meeting followed by Lipa and Calamba, last.

The Community adopted the new Formation Program of OCDS - Philippines after the East Asia Congress November 21-27, 2007.

Page 14: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

HISTORY

It had a positive impact on the development of a better attitude toward formation among the members. It gave them a clearer, more enlightened understanding of the Secular Carmelite Identity and has increased their appreciation of the doctrines of Carmelite Spirituality.

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF FORMATION

FORMATION PROGRAM In our stages of formation, we have a

formator for every stage even if there are no formandees, like in our Aspirant as of now we have none, but since it’s the beginning of the year, we are looking for those interested to join our OCDS group. Invitations are being made by members who knows one to be able to go on wIth our programs.

Page 17: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF FORMATION

For the Novices I and II, we have Sis. Gonnie Perez for Novice I and Sis. Siony Lucas for Novice II. For Temporary Promise I – Sis. Sinay Mendoza and Temporary Promise II – Sis. Siony Lucas.

Page 18: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF FORMATION

Our formandees decrease especially in temporary I and II as some have to stop attending the meeting due to sickness in the family who needs her care. Also one reason is the aging of these members which hinders them, although they wanted to attend the meetings. And sad to say, some of our members died already, and these members are the active ones.

Page 19: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF FORMATION

As of now, as formator for T.P. I there are sometimes from 4 to 6 members who attends the meetings.

Those members who have been with the order for quite a time, due to age, prays most of the time in their own houses, and sometimes die. Some reasons cannot read or recite their divine office daily they just prayed the Rosary instead.

Page 20: ICC BALAYAN, BATANGAS January 15, 2012

REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF FORMATION

Our topic for our formation T.P. I is the Interior Castle.

As 2nd Councilor I am in-charge of the apostolate. The apostolate of the community is “accompanying the dying with prayers until they die”.

As individuals, we bring the sacraments to the sick and the dying.

 Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuosmisericordes oculos ad nos converte;

SALVE REGINA (HYMN TO MARY)

Ora pro nobis sancta Dei Genetrix.Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.

Oremus.

Amen.

SALVE REGINA (HYMN TO MARY)

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us O holy Mother of God,R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Almighty, everlasting God, who by the co-operation of the Holy Spirit didst prepare the body and soul of the glorious Virgin-Mother Mary to become a dwelling-place meet for thy Son: grant that as we rejoice in her commemoration; so by her fervent intercession we may be delivered from present evils and from everlasting death. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
