ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut Report of the two days training organized on “Oilseeds for farming systems” from 29-30 March, 2016. 1. A training on “Oilseeds for farming systems” was organized from 29-30 th March, 2016 at ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram, Meerut under the scheme of FLD on Oilseeds for the activities of cropping/farming systems involving oilseeds other than groundnut. 2. The programme was inaugurated on 29.3.2016 by the Director, IIFSR, Dr. Azad Singh Panwar. Twenty six participants involving extension officers/ SMS from state government (15 Nos), input dealers (1 No.) and field work associated employees from IIFSR i.e. Scientists/ technical officers/ RA/SRF(11 Nos) participated in the training. 3. In his inaugural address, Director Dr. Azad Singh Panwar welcomed all the participants and expounded the role of farming systems in increasing oilseed production and thereby increasing edible oil production in the country. He also emphasized that incorporation of soybean in farming systems of western U. P. will not only increase the overall oilseed production, but can also improve financial conditions of

Report of the two days training organized on “Oilseeds for

farming systems” from 29-30 March, 2016.

1. A training on “Oilseeds for farming systems” was organized

from 29-30th

March, 2016 at ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram,

Meerut under the scheme of FLD on Oilseeds for the

activities of cropping/farming systems involving oilseeds

other than groundnut.

2. The programme was inaugurated on 29.3.2016 by the

Director, IIFSR, Dr. Azad Singh Panwar. Twenty six

participants involving extension officers/ SMS from state

farmers alongwith availability of good quality oil cake for

livestocks in the region.

4. A total of eight lectures viz. on role of oilseeds in farming

systems, promising oilseed based cropping system and their

sustainability, soil fertility management in oilseeds, post

harvest management and processing of oilseeds, integrated

pest management in oilseeds, extension approaches and

ethics in oilseeds production and practical demonstration on

oilseeds in farming systems were delivered/ conducted by the

experts from ICAR-IIFSR and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut. The

participants took keen interest in all the lectures/ practical

with extensive interaction in between.

5. In the valedictory session, Dr. Rambir Katara, Deputy

Director, Agriculture, Meerut was the Chief Guest. Dr.

Galtan Singh, Deputy Director, U.P. State Seed Certification,

Meerut and Lt. Col. J. P. Singh, Meerut Cantt were also

guests of honour during the session. In his valedictory

remark, Chief guest emphasized that, this kind of training is

very much essential for extension officers/ workers so that,

they could train rest of the extension experts and ultimately

farmers. He also desired that oilseeds should be included in

our farming system at least, either as inter or mixed crop to

meet the family requirements of edible oil. Director,

Dr. A. S. Panwar assured the participants that extensive need

based training programme will be planned and conducted by

the institute in the future for capacity building of

stakeholders. Director IIFSR and Chief Guest distributed the

certificates to all the participants. Programme ended with

vote of thanks to all the guests, contributors and participants.

6. Dr. Anil Kumar, Pr. Scientist was course coordinator for the

training supported by a team of Scientists including Dr.

Chandra Bhanu, Dr. Poonam Kashyap and Dr. Sanjeev

Kumar.
