WHAT’S HAPPENING?

› NAV CANADA will transition to the ICAO NOTAM format

Two changes are coming on October 10, 2019:

› NOTAMS retrieved directly from a NAV CANADA web site will be access through the Collaborative Flight Planning Services (CFPS) web site instead of the Aviation Weather Web Site (AWWS)

BENEFITS OF ICAO NOTAM FORMAT

› Aligned with ICAO standards› Pilot briefings will contain NOTAM that are pertinent to flight thus reducing risk of

misinformation› Automation assists with entry and validation of NOTAM

NAV CANADA

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The transition to the ICAO NOTAM format will: Allow NAV CANADA to become compliant with ICAO standards. Allow pilot briefing systems to provide the pilots with NOTAMs that are pertinent to their flight using geographic referencing Provide automation and validation which will create efficiencies and improvements in the quality of NOTAMs. Provide a platform for the Runway Surface Condition upgrade Nov. 2020

COMPARISON OF CANADIAN DOMESTIC AND ICAO NOTAM FORMAT

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The colours compare the information where it is the same. The base information does not change however order has changed (time is on top) Q-Line is machine readable information used for geographic referencing and parsing which will allow for a relevant recall of NOTAMs. It will be suppressed when a NOTAM is viewed in CFPS. NOTE: EST is “estimate” not Eastern Standard Time.

This Bilingual NOTAMs will continue to be provided in the same airspace/aerodromes they are provided today on the above format. Note: CXXX ident in the A field, due to aerodrome (AD) ident letter number combination not ICAO compliant, this is why in these cases the AD ident is listed in field E

HOW TO RETRIEVE ICAO NOTAM: COLLABORATIVE FLIGHT PLANNING SERVICE (CFPS)

https://plan.navcanada.ca/

Presenter
Presentation Notes
CFPS: This will be the only web site where ICAO NOTAM can be recalled directly from a NAV CANADA web site. You do NOT need a login to use the Weather Tab on CFPS, which is the location on the CFPS web site to retrieve ICAO NOTAM. CFPS Weather Tab will be available for familiarization only, in mid-September. It will not be operationally supported until October 10th. After October 10th FICs will be to supporting this function; prior to October 10th, questions can be directed to [email protected] . This is the first step in a transition of all flight planning and weather tools from AWWS to CFPS.

Georeferencing using ICAO NOTAMs (commencing Oct. 10th)

• Flight from CYUL to CYQB• Recall NOTAMs within 25 miles of route between:

• CYUL• CYQB

• NOTAMs georeferenced according to the following in the Q-line

• Geographical coordinates • Radius

• FIR NOTAMS will intersect with the route• National NOTAMS will intersect with the route

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This diagram provides a conceptual representation of what NOTAMs will be retrieved for a flight origin and destination search, in this case, Montreal to Quebec City. The dotted line represents a 25NM radius around the route. You can input a Route Radius of your choice. Aerodrome NOTAMs and their specified area of influence are represented by the tool icons and circles around them. In this scenario, the NOTAMs with green circles will be recalled in a “CYUL to CYQB” search, because their area of influence intersects the flight route radius. As indicated on the slide, FIR NOTAMs and National NOTAMs will also be included.
