SVC (SAN Volume Controller) and Storwize products use 3 disks for quorum resolution (aka tie-break) and to store metadata that’s used for cluster recovery.

An area on mdisks is exclusively reserved for the 3 quorum disks.

In the 7.6.0, we first introduced IP quorum, where a quorum application can be used to tie-break a split-brain scenario, where half of the cluster can’t see the other half and the quorum app is used to break the tie.

Now this feature is about supporting the other half of the quorum functionality i.e., capability of storing data that’s used for cluster recovery.

New Call Home Protocol – use sSMTP for the e-mail protocol with 8.2.1 and will automatically be used on

system upgrade

Cloud Call Home– Specifically designed to work with IBM Storage Insights and uses the RESTful-API to

transfer data directly to Storage Insights– Requires opening port 443 in the firewall for the following IP addresses:
