IBM CE – Fundamentals of Mobile/Hybrid Application Development (including HTML5, dojo, An-

droid)

Course Level

This is a Foundation Level course.

Recommended Course Duration

It is recommended to study this course in a duration of 24 hours including hands-on exercises.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to teach you how to build browser-based desktop and mobile web appli-

cations that are based on standards like HTML (hyper-text markup language), CSS (cascading

style sheets), JavaScript and Dojo.

About the Technology

Most modern browsers support HTML5, which is great for mobile applications. HTML5 adds

many new elements to improve structure, allow audio and video content, and make web applica-

tions more mobile-device friend-ly. Many elements and attributes were changed or obsoleted.

The content model changed significantly. Many interfaces were extended.

Another major change is that HTML5 has none of the presentational attributes that were in

HTML4. These functions are now handled by CSS, which is why we care about it. CSS3 supports

many cool features like gradients, rounded corners and shadowing. It makes web sites look mod-

ern. Any web developer who has not yet moved to HTML5 has some homework to do.

JavaScript is the most popular language on the web. It has a relatively short ramp-up time and is

very well-suited to creating mobile web applications, HTML5 and JavaScript work together and

taking full advantage of all they have to offer.
