"The number of youngsters who get tattoos that display the names of their loved ones has come down. They have perhaps realized that in case of bad relationships, they will have to get the tattoos removed," says Nivetha, a final year engineering student. Shaan, who owns a tattoo store in Besant Nagar, offers a different perspective. He says, "College students probably don't get a tattoo done because they encounter problems during the visa process, where health concerns are raised." Joel, who has just entered college, feels that youngsters now have newer things to experiment. "As the craze for tattoos has come down, college goers are not interested in what has already come and gone." Many college girls feel that it is much better to get temporary tattoos than get a permanent one and regret it later as they are unsure of what they want. Experts cite reasons like increased awareness towards allergic reactions and skin infections to account for the reduction in number of people opting for permanent tattoos. However, there a few who still swear by permanent tattoos. Shivangi, a final year student, recently got a permanent tattoo that reads 'maa om paa'. She says, "It is my way of letting my parents know how much they mean to me. It's like my good luck charm." So, will permanent tattoos make a comeback? "You can never predict youngsters," signs off Shaan. TORONTO: GMC was honoured today by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), which named the 2014 GMC Sierra the “Best New Pickup” in Canada. “With the importance of the pickup truck segment in Canada, we thank AJAC and its membership for this significant award recognizing the GMC Sierra as the best new pickup in the country,” said Rob Assimakopoulos, general director of marketing and communications for GMC in Canada. “The Sierra is the definition of GMC’s Professional Grade mantra, featuring the most advanced engines in a pickup with a unique combination of technologies delivering legendary GMC capability.” This award for the all-new 2014 GMC Sierra results from recent rigorous back-to-back testing in Niagara Falls, Ontario in October. Vote results are not the personal opinion of just one journalist. Rather, they are based on a combination of objective data and evaluation by 80 journalists of 174 vehicles. Each journalist drives vehicles in a category back-to-back on the same day, under the same conditions, on closed and public roads, so as to ensure consumer relevance. The all-new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 full-size pickup is the most powerful, most advanced and most refined truck in the brand’s 111-year history. Sierra’s bold new exterior houses one of three all- new EcoTec3 engines, a fully updated cabin with available next- generation IntelliLink connectivity and other features designed for the most discerning truck owners. Childhood Obesity: Research Finds Two GeneVariants That May Cause Weight Gain In Children

Researchers examiningchildhood obesity havediscovered two gene

variants that they believe couldplay a critical role in thedevelopment of commonchildhood obesity.

While their work is not thefirst to expose gene variants andtheir effects on obesity it doesappear to be the first projectfocused directly on genevariants that involve childhoodobesity.

Researchers found the genevariants by analyzing thousandsof genetic studies conducted onthousands of childrenthroughout the United States,Europe and Australia.

The new research“robus t ly” shows tha t thetwo gene variants predisposesome groups of children toobes i ty whi le o thers a rea f fec ted d i rec t ly by the i renvironment.

Research sugges ts tha t

the gene var iants are mostl ike ly to cause ch i ldhoodobesi ty in the f i rs t severalyears of a child’s life, even inchildren as young as 2-years-old. What isn’t clear at thistime is how the gene variantswork to cause obesi ty inchildren, although researchersspeculate that they could beworking in the intestine andhave something to do withbacteria found in the gut.

The s t udy comes a t atime when nearly one third ofch i l d r en a r e obese o rove rwe igh t wh i l e 17% o fch i l d r en and ado l e scen t sfrom 2 to 19 are consideredobese. Obesity in children isconsidered when a child is in

the 95th percentile or abovebased on standard pediatricgrowth charts.

In the mean researcherss a y t h e y w i l l c o n t i n u e t olook for more genes that canaffect weight gain and thencompare t hose genes t olifestyle decisions to gain abetter picture of what causeschildhood obesi ty and howthey can combat it. What theoutcome may be one thing isfor certain, most researchersagree that fighting childhoodobesity should start at an earlyage and should be focused on ahealthy lifestyle free of junkfoods and other “childhoodfavorites” that can cause issuesearly and also later in life.

10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

BEFORE YOU HIRE AN AGENT

For more information call:

DISCLAIMER: "Not intended to solicit proper ty currently listed for sale"

1. WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT?WHY SHOULD I LIST MY HOME WITH YOU?It’s a much tougher real estate market than it was a decade ago. Whatunique marketing plans and programs does this agent have in place tomake sure that your home stands out favorably versus other competinghomes? What things does this agent offer you that others don’t to help yousell with the least amount of hassle and for the most amount of money?2. WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY’S TRACK RECORD AND REPUTATION INTHE MARKET PLACE?It may seem like everywhere you look, real estate agents are boastingabout being #1 for this or that, or quoting you the number of homesthey’ve sold. If you’re like many homeowner, you’ve probably becomeimmune to much of this information. Afterall, you ask, “Why should I careabout how many homes one agent sold over another. The only thing I careabout is whether they can sell my home quickly for the most amount ofmoney.”Well, because you want your home sold fast and for top dollar, you shouldbe asking the agents you interview how many homes they have sold. I’msure you will agree that success in real estate is selling homes. If oneagent is selling a lot of homes where another is selling only a handful, ask yourself why this might e? What things are these two agents doingdifferently? You may be surprised to know that many agents sell fewer than 10homes a year. This volume makes it difficult for them to do full impactmarketing on your home, because they can’t raise the money it takes toafford the advertising and special programs to give your home a highprofile. Also, at this low level, they probably can’t afford to hire an assistant, which means that they’re running around trying to do all the componentsof the job themselves, which means service may suffer.

Men less moral than women?Common stereotypes about

men include that they areinsensitive, liars, cheaters,

immature, commitment phobic, etc.And now there's evidence to provethat they are more likely to tradeethics to prove their masculinity.According to recent studiesconducted by Americanresearchers, men have lower moralstandards compared to the fairer sex.Their research showed that men arevery likely to minimise therepercussions of moral misconduct, resort to tactics that are ethicallyquestionable, and tell bigger liesmore often. Also, they have noqualms to comprise moral ethics in

3. WHAT ARE YOU MARKETING PLANS FOR MY HOME?How much money does this agent spend in advertising the homes s/helists versus the other agents you are interviewing? In what media(newspaper, magazine, TV etc.) does this agent advertise? What does s/he know about the effectiveness of one medium over the other?4. WHAT HAS YOU COMPANY SOLD IN MY AREA?Agents should bring you a complete listing of both their own, and othercomparable sales in you area.5. DOES YOUR BROKER CONTROL YOUR ADVERTISING OR DOYOU?If your agent is not in control of their own advertising, then you home willbe competing for advertising space not only with this agent’s other listings, but also with the listings of every other agent in the brokerage.6. ON AVERAGE, WHEN YOU LISTINGS SELL, HOW CLOSE IS THESELLING PRICE TO THE ASKING PRICE?This information is available from the Real Estate Board. Is this agentsperformance higher or lower than the board average?Their performance on this measurement will help you predict how high aprice you will get for the sale of your home.7. ON AVERAGE, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR YOUR LISTINGS TOSELL?This information is also available from the Real Estate Board. Does thisagent tend to sell faster or slower than the board average? Theirperformance on this measurement will will help you predict how longyour home will be on the market before it sells.8. HOW MANY BUYERS ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING WITH?Obviously, the more buyers your agent is working with, the better yourchances are of selling your home quickly. It will also impact price becausean agent with many buyers can set up an auction like atmosphere where

many buyers bid on your home at the same time. Ask them to describethe system they have for attracting buyers.9. DO YOU HAVE A REFERENCE LIST OF CLIENTS I COULD CONTACT?Ask to see this list, and then proceed to spot check some of the names.10. WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M NOT HAPPY WITH THE JOB YOUR AREDOING TO GET MY HOME SOLD?CAN I CANCEL MY LISTING CONTRACT?Be wary of agents that lock you into a lengthy listing contract which theycan get out of )by ceasing to effectively market your home) buy you can’t.There are usually penalties and broker protection periods which safeguardthe agent’s interests, but not yours. How confident is your agent in theservice s/he will provide you? Will s/he allow you to cancel your contractwithout penalty if you’re not satisfied with the service provided?Evaluate each agent’s responses to these 10 questions carefully andobjectively.Who will do the best job for you? These questions will help you decide.

a bid to assert dominance to proveand defend their masculinity. Weask experts why men have ficklerelationship with morality.

Upbringing stylePsychologist Chandni Mehta

agrees with the study saying,"Generally speaking, men are moreimmoral than women. This is mostlybecause they are more casual in theirapproach in their dealings. Forexample, a man may have an extra-marital affair and not think of it as abig deal. In this dog-eat-dogworld, they have been brought upto be goal driven and are identifiedby their accomplishments. Womenon the other hand, are viewed asnurturers and are vieweddifferently. And therefore, women's morals holds more

weightage." She cites an example, the idea of a ruthless businessmanis more acceptable than that of aruthless businesswoman and shemay often get looked down upon.

Masculinity factorSo what really prompts men

to be fierce about protecting theirmasculinity? Guess it's because aman may prefer to be labelledruthless as it is often associatedwith being macho. SreenivasanIyer, 23, a technical writer opines,"From the caveman to a seniorexecutive in the modern society, men are more likely to succumb tothe pressure of maintaining theirperceived masculinity. Themodern society quite oftenpresents a distorted perception ofmasculinity, one which stresses

on success, fame, and too little onethics and morality. In fact, questioning the masculinity of aman is a bigger insult thanbranding him a liar or a cheat."However, he adds that since thestudy has focused on Americanmen, it is not an entirely convincingconclusion.

Women aren't far behindConsultant psychiatrist Dr

Milan Balakrishnan doesn't thinkthere is a gender difference as faras morality is concerned. "Menand women can be equally moralor immoral depending upon thesituations that they are put in.Morality is determined by thevalues that you have inculcatedand which you decide to stick toin a difficult and testing situation.
