The Mexican Society of Mycology, the World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products, The Ministry of Indigenous People of Chiapas, the Instituto de Ecología A.C. and ECOSUR, kindly invite all interested people to assist or participate to the Iberoamerican Workshop on Edible Mushrooms that will be held during April 21-23, 2010, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. This event is planned to promote the academic discussion among growers, technicians, researchers, professionals and students interested in wild and cultivated edible mushrooms and related items. Objective Contribute to the up dating of knowledge and the analysis of the general situation of wild and cultivated mushrooms in Iberoamerican countries. That is to say, to discuss problems, challenges, research advances, and economic, ecological and social issues. Structure of the workshop: Keynote lectures and symposia Internationally known mycologists have been invited to present their research advances and to talk about new findings and discoveries in their speciality. Oral papers and posters Researchers, students and professionals are invited to submit proposals to be presented orally or in posters. The subject includes but it is not limitative to wild mushrooms, substrate for cultivation, diseases of mushrooms, breeding and varieties, use of spent substrate, bioremediation, biochemistry, physiology and genetics of mushrooms, education, trade and post harvest handling. Oral presentations The oral presentations will be scheduled in the final program to be displayed on March 15, 2010. Participants will have 20 minutes to present their work, including five minutes for questions. Each presenter should give the electronic file of his talk (PowerPoint or Word for Windows) early in advance to the Organizing Committee. A computer and a digital projector will be available at the presentation room. If additional equipment is needed, please contact the organizing committee. Posters Dimensions of posters will be 90 cm high and 70 cm wide. The text should include the title in capital letters, the address of the authors, and a concise description preferable with figures and photographies of the work to be presented. Authors should have the necessary items to install their poster on a cement wall. Posters will be exposed during the whole event. It is recommended to install the posters early on 21st April and take them on after 17:00 h on 23 April.

Abstracts No later than February 28, 2010, keynote lecturers and oral and poster presenters should submit to the organizing committee an abstract no larger than 200 words of the work to be presented. The abstract should be send to [email protected] (Word for windows or compatible). The abstract will be evaluated by a
reviewer committee and in case of acceptance the corresponding author will be notified. At least one of the authors should be registered in order to present their work. Full papers The editorial board of the workshop will select those abstracts of academic relevance and interest and will invite authors to prepare a full manuscript of their work. The full paper should be submitted no later than April 21, 2010 in order to start a peer reviewed process to publish the book “Edible mushrooms in Iberoamerican Countries” Language The official languages of the workshop will be Spanish and English. The lectures will be given according to the choice of the speaker. There will not be simoultaneous translation. The book will be edited in Spanish, so contributions submitted in English will be translated to Spanish by the editorial committee. Registration Registration fees before 28 February 2010 will be 1000 Mex Pesos (US$100) for professionals and 500 Mex Pesos (US$ 50) for students and growers. After this date fees will be US$150 and US$100, respectively. The abstract is limited to a maximum of 200 words, and should summarize the objectives of the work, the methods, and results. Refrain from using abbreviations and references. Include a short introduction to provide sufficient background information. Point our results as a succinct and accurate description of the findings of the present study. Use single space and font “Times” or “Times New Roman” of 11 points. Use italics for scientific name of organisms. You may write your abstract in Spanish or English.
