About IAT TECIAT TEC
INSTITUTE OF APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
The rst generation of the twenty-rst century, Generation Z or the iGeneration; regardless of what we call them, all those born after 1997 share distinctive characteristics related to the way they communicate, process information, share ideas, deal with technology and unquestionably in the way they learn. Realizing these facts, educators and educational systems are now faced with many challenges.
‘Education for the iGeneration’ translates into many interesting topics, or rather questions: how do we design a curriculum that meets the needs of this new type of learners? How do we rewire our educational systems to communicate learning objectives and help the iGeneration achieve the desired outcomes? How can we prepare teachers for these changes and equip them with the skills needed? What tools do we need to adapt for use in the classroom? With so many questions, and probably not enough research-based answers, the need for a dialogue to exchange ideas and listen to the viewpoints of the iGeneration arises. IAT is pleased to invite you to share your ideas on education for the iGeneration. The conference aims at showcasing the successes and challenges as well as exploring the future of education for the iGeneration, from the perspectives of both educational technology experts and students.
Since equipping Emirati youth with leadership skills is one of the main visions of IAT, Applied Technology High School (ATHS) students across the UAE will take part in presenting, organizing and moderating the event.

Prof. Cathleen NorrisRegents Professor,University of North Texas, USA.
Prof. Cathleen Norris is a Regents Professor in the College of Information, Department of Learning Technologies at the University of North Texas. Cathie's 14 years in K-12 classrooms - and receiving Dallas' Golden Apple Award - has shaped her university research agenda: helping K-12 teachers move from the 19th century into the 21st century. Cathie has been President of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the leading international organization for technology-minded educators, and the President of the National Educational Computing Association (NECA), the association that organized NECC, the premier conference on technology in K-12.
Prof. Elliot SolowayArthur F. Thurnau Professor,University of Michigan, USA.
Prof. Elliot Soloway is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in the Dept of CSE, College of Engineering, School of Education and School of Information, University of Michigan. For the past 10 years, Soloway's research has been guided by the vision that mobile, handheld - and very low-cost - networked devices are the only way to truly achieve universal 1:1 in schools - all across the globe. In 2001, the UMich undergraduates selected him to receive the "Golden Apple Award" as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year. In 2004 and in 2011, the EECS College of Engineering HKN Honor Society awarded Elliot the "Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award."

iLearning for the iGeneration:New channels, new learners?
Prof. Peter J. ScottDirector of the Knowledge Media Institute,The Open University UK.
FCHS Theatre
Abstract: New channels for reaching our current (and prospective) students are appearing constantly in the networked world. I will aim to showcase some of the ways that the UK's Open University is starting to exploit these new channels and to make them an eective medium of communication and learning. The OU distributes course materials to learners worldwide via its OpenLearn programme, on iTunes U., in YouTube, and via a variety of other 'podcast' channels. We are also creating a new range of media interfaces including those that 'break out' of the book. As Apple announce the billionth download from iTunes U, now is a good time to reect upon the potential new experiences we could create together for iGeneration learners in these exciting spaces.
Professor Peter J. Scott is the Director of the Knowledge Media Institute of the Open University, (http://kmi.open.ac.uk). KMI is a 70-strong Research and Development Unit on the OU campus in Milton Keynes, which explores the future of learning and the boundaries between knowledge and the media we use to work with it. Before joining the Open University in 1995, Prof. Scott lectured in Psychology and Cognitive Science at the University of Sheeld. He was the founding President of the European Association of Technology Enhanced Learning, and was the coordinator and scientic director of STELLAR, the EU’s 7th Framework Network of Excellence in Technology Enhanced Learning.
