recommendationsontrainingandqualificationofAtoNmanagers,IALAhasadoptedRecommendationE-141

Edition3onStandardsforTrainingandCertificationofAtoNpersonnel.

IALACommitteesworkingcloselywiththeIALAWorldWideAcademy(TheAcademy)havedevelopedaseriesof

1. SCOPE

Thiscourseisintendedtoprovideaidstonavigationmanagersandotherinterestedpartieswiththetheoretical

andpracticaltrainingnecessarytohaveasatisfactoryunderstandingofthethreeIALAriskmanagementtools;

IALAWaterwayRiskAssessmentProgram(IWRAPMk2);PortandWaterwaySafetyAssessmenttool(PAWSA)and

simulation.

2. OBJECTIVE

Uponsuccessfulcompletionofthiscourse,participantswillhaveacquiredsufficientknowledgeandskilltouse

IWRAPMk2withintheirorganisations;organiseaPAWSAworkshopandrecognisetheusetowhichsimulation

techniquescanbeputinriskmanagementandeffectiveAtoNwaterwaydesign.

1 ThiscoursewillbeclassroombasedwithpresentationsdeliveredusingMSPowerPoint®.Althoughthecourse

islimitedto40participants,theseminarroomshouldbebigenoughtopermittheparticipantstositatdesks

largeenoughtooperatealaptopcomputerwithroomforprintedmaterialtohand. Eachdeskshouldbe

providedwithapowersocket.

2 Theseminarroomshouldbeequippedwithoverheadprojectorsandscreenstoenablepresentationofthe

subjectmatter.

3 Toenableallparticipantstoreceiveclearguidancefrominstructorsandtoraisequestionsthatcanbeheard

throughout the classroom, lapelor fixed lecternmicrophones shouldbeprovided togetherwitha roving

microphoneforusebyparticipants.

4 IWRAPMk2presentationsrequireparticipantstohaveWi-Fiinternetaccess.

5 ItisexpectedthateachparticipantwillhavetheuseofapersonallaptopcomputerwithaWindowsOS.As

IWRAPMk2requiresparticipantstoselect toolsregularly fromscreenmenus,eachparticipantshouldbe

advisedtouseacomputermouse.

6 Itmaybethatsomeparticipantswillhavelittleexperienceinoperatingcomputermodels. Consideration

shouldbegiventorunningatwo-streamdeliveryofModule3Elements3.3–3.5topermitparticipantswho

areunlikelytouseIWRAPMk2inpracticetogainasatisfactoryunderstandingofitsprincipleswithoutmoving

toitsadvanceduse.
