TI Serve uN arTISTa?Series of performances 2009 - ongoing

I started renting myself as an artist, available to anyone, for a wage of 5€ per hour.People that decide to rent me decide also if my work for them will be a work of art or just a simple work. In the first case they document the event. Sometimes I’m exploited, some other times I’m the exploiter.I made at least 40 works up to now, of any kind, from writing poems to carry heavy objects.

Ti serve un artista? Work no.10 Buyer: Elisa Caldana

Elisa asked me to demolish an old sofa so that it could be thrown away, and she filmed the whole action, lasting a couple of hours.

Ti serve un artista? Work no.17 Buyer: Lorenzo Mazzi

Lorenzo asked me for a research on the forms and the height of clouds above Venice. I decided to monitor the evolution of the clouds from the windows of my house, and the research became a sort of poetic logbook.

Ti serve un artista? Work no.37 Buyer: Adrian Notz

Adrian, the director of Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, asked me to cook a bolonnaise sauce inside the public library of Belgrade while he was having a lecture. These photos are from Rebell.tv, where he reported the action in real time.

CoSE SEMPLICI E BANALISeries of performances 2010-2011

In collaboration with Carrozzeria Margot, I organized a series of three meetings in a fabulously ordinary suburban bar, about extremely simple and banal topics. People from the art world participated, along with the usual customers. I asked them to consider the automatic mechanisms of small actions in everyday life through the methods of open Space Technology. Every table produced reports synthesizing the discussions made.

INSegNaSeries of acrylic paintings on paper, variable dimensions2011

In collaboration with LAC, a highschool in a very ethnical-mixed suburb in Milano, I took a class of students with mental disabilities to the streets of their neighbourhood, to research about graphic elements in their environment. I elaborated the graphic elements they photographed, and, at school, projected them on the wall, to let the students rein-terpret them with acrylic paint.

QuALCoSA è SuCCESSoPerformance with a couple of lovers2010

I brought two persons in the space of an exhibition, the night before the opening. I asked them to make love there, then I left them alone. Nobody knows what really happened; I wrote conjectures about the circumstance on the catalogue, by hand, a different one for each copy.

IN vINo verITaTeSPerformance with drunk people; artist’s book2009-2010

In occasion of my visual arts graduation I dismantled the object-dissertation by deconstructing it. I recorded dialogues of drunk people for six months, reporting them without any change in the manuscript. I graduated on April 1st.

PoRNoLoGIEPerformance2009

I’ve been invited by the collective Blauer Hase to exhibit a series of readings on pornography. I asked every participant to write their own masturbatory fantasies, anonymously. Everyone had to read one of the produced texts, randomly, in front of the public.

APPuNTI PER uN’INTERVISTAPerformance with a mobile phone and the artist’s parents2009

I erased all of my contacts from my own mobile phone, except the number of my mother and the number of my father. Then I left my mobile on a chair in the middle of the exhibition opening, along with these words:

“My name is Iacopo; this is my phone. Inside there are the numbers of Angela, my mother, and Dante, my father. They are two different kinds of persons; they split up when i was 9 and now they live in two towns divided by a river. I see them rarely now, and I wonder how their distinct perceptions of my actual existence may vary.I invite you to experiment a small part of these variations: call my mother and my father. Ask them the same question about myself. It can be a banal, personal, absurd, or embarassing question. But it has to be just one question, and the same for both of them.Enjoy the two conversations”.

ZEITGEIST (QuAdRI dI MERdA)Unlimited series of paintings. Artist’s shit on paper. 2009

Suggestion of the usage of shit as a primary mean of expression. I paint a picture a day with my own feces: a chromatic, and sometimes oracular, exploration of the quality of the day.

uNA LEZIoNEPerformance with wine and a university class2008

“Rhizome,” the introductory chapter to deleuze and Guattari’s A Thousand Plateaux, was discussed and analyzed in the context of a university seminar. The only variation with respect to standard academic practice was that, during this lesson, all the participants – including roughly twenty students; the professor, Cesare Pietroiusti; and the assistant, Filipa Ramos – had to drink a bottle and a half of wine each. A sip for every new concept introduced throughout the discussion. This was a rigorous experimental verification of the concept of “drunkenness as the triumphant irruption of the plant in ourselves.” I decided not to document the performance in, so to speak, an official manner. This lack of documentation, together with the fact that all the participants were drunk, means that the concepts that were expressed and the events that occurred during the lesson remain largely mysterious – even to the participants themselves – and that, over time, legends have formed surrounding these concepts and events, of which everyone continues to recount his or her own personal version, thus gradually enriching the narration. The one potentially trustworthy and feasibly vera-cious (but who knows, really?) account of what actually happened was produced by the one abstinent student admitted into the lesson: Yang Jianwen. I provided her with a notebook, asking that she take down the minutes of the lesson in her mother tongue: Chinese.

SENZA TIToLo?Project for the massive production of a beach towel2005

caSa DI TuTTIProject for a collective sculptures seriesUpcoming (2011)

In collaboration with Fondazione Wurmkos, Milano. The goal is to make a normal place become the place where to build and preserve the identity of a small community, i.e. a problematic neighbourhood. It is a long term project, which will involve people living around in the construction of a merzbau. I will collect material from the houses around, broken objects, construction materials etc, and reassemble everything with the help of the donors, buolding an ongoing collective sculpture.
