D. Y. Patil Education Society, Kolhapur is a reputed 35 year old organization. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur was started in 1989. MHRD accorded the Deemed to be University status to D.Y. Patil Education Society, Kolhapur in Sept. 2005 consisting of D. Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur.
The University has been reaccredited as 'A' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2017 for 2017-2022. The University has been placed at rank 97 in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2018. The University has been awarded by the Club of Rectors “Best University Award 2013”
rdof Europe, UK during “Oxford Summit of Leaders”, December2013 at Oxford, UK. The University received 3 CMAI CCI Technology at the Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad by EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARDS–2015Association of India Communication Multimedia and Infrastructure (CMAI). The University is honored with 'Campus Preparedness Award-2015' by Campus Management, Pune for felicitating the preparedness of Indian Campuses for Global Excellence. D. Y. Patil Medical College has recently received “Pride of Maharashtra Award-2018” and “Best Institute of the Year (Education) from the Maharashtra Industrial and Economic Development Association Mumbai”. The University has featured in a publication “Universities of India 2008-09-A Knowledge
thConclave” brought out jointly by the Dun and Bradstreet Mind logix released on 24 January 2009 at Bangalore. The University publishes two Research Journals.
D.Y. Patil Education society runs various programs under constituent units of the University like D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Institute, D.Y. Patil College of Nursing, and offers MBBS, M.D., M.S., P.G. Diploma, Fellowship programs, B.Sc. (N) and M.Sc.(N) Programs. The University has established 'Center for Interdisciplinary Research'. There are various projects sanctioned by DST, DRDO, CSIR & UGC, New Delhi. The center offers Ph.D. program and innovative PG programs in Medical Physics, Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine and Medical Biotechnology. Research and development activities are conducted in collaboration with national and international Institutions. The University has also established Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, RICH Cell, Nanomaterials Lab. The 800 Bedded Multispecialty Hospital with blood bank offers affordable, equitable, advanced Health care with well-equipped intensive care, modern operation theatres and sophisticated diagnostic facilities. D.Y. Patil Medical College has developed Yoga Lab, Cadaveric Bio-skills Lab, Animal House.

Kolhapur is one of the oldest civilizations of the country. Situated on the banks of River Panchganga, Kolhapur is called as DAKSHIN KASHI. It is located in western Maharashtra and easily accessible via Road, Railway and also by Air. The city has many historical monuments and sites to visit. Kolhapur is known as place of pilgrimage, also famous for its Shree Mahalaxmi Temple, and has several places of tourist interest such as hill station and historical fort Panhala, Jyotiba temple, beautiful museums, palaces, Rankala lake, few other forts, Bison sanctuary etc. located nearby. The city has a pleasant climate and enjoys marvelous greenery. Kolhapur provides some or the other attraction for everyone. Kolhapur can be called as shoppers' delight. The city is famous for its Kolhapuri saaj (special types of gold ornaments), Kolhapuri chappals, Kolhapuri sarees and typical hot Kolhapuri cuisines with delicious veg and non-veg food.
There are many nearby places of tourist attraction like hill stations Amboli, Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar etc. Many dams, historical forts are easily accessible by road from Kolhapur.
Kolhapur is the entry point for beautiful konkan region with multitude of attractive sea shores. State of Goa, a tiny emerald land on the west coast of India – rightly called paradise on earth – is not far from Kolhapur. Goa is a kaleidoscope blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures, sweetened with sun, sea, sand, seafood and spirituality.
