description

The IAAC Global Summer School for the 2011 academic year will continue to investigate multiscalar strategies for the (re) construction of our inhabiting environments (home, city, planet). IAAC Summer School 2011 is part of the IAAC Global School (GS) project. IAAC GS is an initiative which seeks to generate a dynamic network based on distributive knowledge and collective actions. As part of this initiative The Global Summer School 2011 will take place simultaneously in 3 different locations: Barcelona, Turin, and Mumbai.

ENERGY

How can we rethink our cities for achieving energy efficiency?

Can we plan 0 emisions cities?

Which is the new model of a self sufficient city ?

Urbanism-EnergyInformational Layer

There is a Behavior loop, a continuous loop of information-action of citizens.

What happens if we think Urbanism and Energy through a new informational layer added in our cities?

Might our city model be responsive to our behavioral changes over time?

INFORMATION

Page 13: IaaC Global Summer school 2011 presentation

Observing the real-time city becomes a means to understanding the present and anticipating the future of urban environments.

Technology can help individuals make more informed decisions about their environment

By overlaying mobility information on geographic and socio-economic references of the city we unveil the relationships between fixed and fluid urban elements

There is a need to give the data back to the people who themselves generate it through their actions, allowing them to be more in sync with their environment as well as to taking decisions on the basis of information that reflect the actual state of their city.

“diffuse façade” a massive indicator of the air´s components through a changing cloud

water vapor diffusors changes the microclimate around reducing the temperature in the summer and humidifying the environment in the winter.

Urbanism-Energy-InformationNodes/NetworkCloudsensing

What if we think of a bottom up process of a networked informational layer?

What if we think data not only as independent informational nodes but also as parts of a network — a new urban layer?

Personal Data Collection and Sharing

Can we be data producers?

Can we share information beyond tweets, pictures and videos through Internet?

Do we understand the conditions of the environment surrounding us?

Can we create an infinite loop of behavior and information change?

One Person, One Pixel

From devices to cities, the internet of things

Can we create our own data capturing devices?
