    COMMITMENT TO ACCOMPLISHMENT

A comprehensive program of evaluation in the public schools shouldcover: (1) Evaluation, like the determination of educational objectives, is achief responsibility of a School Board. Evaluation is the only means oflearning whether the educational goals adopted by the Board are beingachieved.

A comprehensive program of evaluation in the public schools shouldcover (1) the curriculum and instructional programs, (2) pupils, dropouts, and graduates, (3) school personnel, (4) buildings and equipment, (5)business operations, and (6) operations of the School Board.

Appraising the success of the instructional program is particularlyimportant. Only through a keen awareness of the strengths andshortcomings of the program can the School Board have a sound basis formaking improvements.

In appraising, the School Board needs to look at its own actions as wellas the efforts and accomplishments of the Superintendent and the schoolstaff. The School Board must work toward maintaining an awareness of thefeelings of teachers, pupils, and the community.

The School Board will make evaluation a continuing process so that itwill stay abreast of accomplishments and needs.
