DAY 1- LESSON PRESENTATION Present lesson. Print and color activity page included in lesson. Conclude each activity with your testimony. PHRASE/WORD RECOGNITION (REPEAT DAILY) Young children – Praise your child when you see him take good care of his body. Help him learn the phrase, “I can do it.” Older children – “I will take care of my body.” DAY 2 - ART ACTIVITY Using the activity page for the lesson, have your child draw a line from each circular picture to the part of the body it represents. Before drawing each line, help your child sing the new words to, “One There Was a Snowman”, included in the lesson, as you explain that because he is now bigger, he can make good choices about how he cares for his body. DAY 3 – SCRIPTURE MARKING Help your child highlight 1 Cor. 3:16-17. For younger children, show them the passage highlighted in your scriptures. Teach your child the significance of the highlighting process. DAY 4 – CREATE A HYGIENE CHART Help your child create a hygiene chart. It could resemble a simple chore chart with hygiene activities like brushing teeth, combing hair, washing hands, etc. First, tear pictures out of magazines or simply print another copy of the activity page from Day 1. As you glue the pictures in a vertical row, explain the importance of taking care of each body part and the consequences of neglect. This is a great time to teach your child the importance of feeding his body rather than responding to his tongue’s preferences. Each day when your child completes a task related to a picture, give him a sticker or draw a simple star by the picture. DAY 5 - GAME This game teaches the words to “The Lord Gave Me a Temple ” (p. 153). The music player at lds.org includes the music and words as an Mp3. Place objects which represent taking care of our bodies like a toothbrush, comb, soap, etc. in a sack. Have your child remove one object from the sack. With your child in another room, hide the object. Begin playing or singing the song to alert your child to the fact that the game is beginning. Continue singing or playing the song while he searches for the hidden object. You may want to crank up the volume of the player or your voice when your child is approaching the object and lower the volume when he is walking in the wrong direction. When the object is found, he may pick another from the sack. With discretion, you may want to touch body parts as you name them. This could be a good time to talk about appropriate touching.
