Edition 2: 2019-2020 22 July 2019 The new Club Runner website is up and running although still in draft form and with limited materials. The Art Show and RORP pages are complete and there is quite a lot of material online. The first Blue Moon for this Rotary year was held at The Parrot House restaurant in Racecourse Road on Wednesday July 31st. 14 members and partners enjoyed a delicious meal and good company. Peter and Kien brought Susan and Matt along as this is one of their regular venues and they had suggestions for popular meals. It was lovely to catch up with partners and to have time to chat. This year we sponsored 4 students for National Youth Science Forum {with part financial contributions} and at the interviews held last Sunday, 3 students were successful. Eloise Klassen and Alexander Langley from Mount Alexander College and Emma Merritt from Lowther Hall {who is a friend of Mick & Karen Lawn}. Eloise will attend the NYSF in Canberra from 1st to 12th January and Alexander and Emma will attend the Brisbane camp from 8th to 19th January. I was delighted to receive Peter Cribb’s email advising that the first playground from the container sent earlier this year has been installed in the Urban Council Children’s Park in Ampara. A formal opening ceremony was held on August 5th with the President of the Rotary Club of Ampara Dr Dayaratne hosting a number of dignitaries, Rotarians and guests. This was the playground extracted from Quantin Binnah in Werribee. The second container is now filled and ready for shipping, however the playgrounds need to be relocated from the current container to a leased container for the transport. Also, based on PDG Senake’s feedback, there needs to be some additional marking for clearer identification of elements for unloading in Sri Lanka. So, on Monday August 12th, we will unpack all and reload. All hands are needed from 10am for a couple of hours to complete this work. Please RSVP to Peter Cribb if you can assist. We need everyone. On Sunday August 11th, we are invited to lunch at Camp Getaway for a formal presentation of the Vance Hilton Memorial Tie. We will join with District Governor Grant Hocking and the District Support Team for the presentation. Lunch is ordered but I need to confirm numbers asap.
