liTHE ART-OF LISTENING"
It seems to be a human pro· pensity to want confirmation of the things we believe. How many times I have received accolade for things I have said or suggested, not necessarily beeause--there was validity in my ideas, but because they coincided with those who approved. But if we are constantly going to engage in discussion concerning matters that we universally agree upon, how can we ever hope to broaden our purview.
The world is fomenting with ideas whose range and scope are very great indeed. I n order to truly become part of the world of ideas, we must develop the fine art of listening, which does not mean polite patience, but more than that, a desire to genuinely listen and evaluate. We will, in the course of the year, invite guests to the congregation. Their ideas may be diametrically at odds with our own thinking. I would hope that we will be able to listen with the inner ear. The result may be a confirmation of the things that we already believe. On the other hand, we may find ourselves altering some of the ideas we hold to. I n the final analysis, we shall be better informed people by virtue of our having considered all possible points of view.

TEMPLE GI FT FUND
How many ti mes have you had a joyous occasion or a sad one that you would have liked to commemorate or memorialize in some way? Your Temple Gift Fund is prepared to assist you in any way. If you have a Bar or Bas Mitzvah, have reached a big anniversary or birth
day, or have had a new baby why not have a permanent reminder of the occasion by purchasing something for the temple? A piece of silver for the kitchen or a ceremonial for the sanctuary!
If you have lost a friend, purchase a prayerbook in his or her name ... or if it is a close member of your family, perhaps you would like a Yahrzeit Plaque that will be lighted on the anniversary of the passing.
For any and all of these items, THINK OF YOUR TEMPLE GIFT FUND. Contact Mitzie Szerlip 538-0641 - - for information.

New teaching positions are being filled by Mr. Myron Berezin (a new Temple member) and Jerry Steinfeld in the 9th grades, and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Gerard
