FESPA Berlin 2018FESPA Berlin 2018FESPA Global Print Expo, formerly FESPA Digital, is held every year in Europe, and each year a different city is a host for this event. It is the largest wide-format printing expo in Europe, not taking into account drupa, which is only every four years.

This year, Berlin will be the hosting city for FESPA GLobal Print Expo, from 15 to Friday 18 May 2018 at Messe Berlin, Germany.

Besides having the digital part of the expo, FESPA will also feature: FESPA Awards, FESPA World Wrap Masters, Printeriors, Digital Corrugated Experience, Print Make Wear. You can visit all these areas where lots of applica-tions will be featured, and some will also have live demonstrations.

Textile printing is the up and rising technology in the wide-format printing industry, so naturally the amount of printers and companies that exhibit this kind of printers has increased considerably each year. Both di-rect-to-fabric and transfer paper technologies.

Infographic: Classification of UV-cured printers by structureBased on attending several tradeshows a year since around 2000, we have identified at least 4 types of printer sturctures, and in some cases, each of these structures have variations, as you will see.

Every type of printer structure has its pros and cons. Some are very affordable, but not very adequate in the long run. Some require a serious investment, but you get peace of mind.

Every manufacturer chooses the structure or design of printer they consider is the best option for the market segment they want to serve.

Based on what we have seen in the market since we began evaluating printers around 2001, we have worked on the fol-lowing classification by structure:

A dedicated flatbed printer prints only on rigid boards, unless it has a roll-to-roll mechanism at the front.

Depending on their size, there are two subcategories of dedicated flatbed printers:

Dedicated Flatbed

A combo printer moves media with a conveyor belt. It can print both rigid and flexible materials.

Combo4

A dedicated roll-to-roll printer will handle only flexible media. The widest printers reach the 5 m. long.

5 Hybrid A hybrid printer moves rigid and roll-fed media with • pinch rollers and • grit rollersBut rigid media is usually not too thick (less than 1”)

UV-curing printer market is very popular at FESPA and the rest of the world, this technology has managed to stayed the current for many years.

Inkjet ink manufacturers and distributors are regualr exhibitors for FESPA, you can even find some arfer market inks at the show.

The most common types of inkjet inks exhibited at FESPA are UV-curable, UV-LED, textile (acid, reactive, disperse, pigment and dye sublimation), solvent eco-solvent, water-based, and latex.
