The Importance of Locking Your Doors

I cannot stress enough the importance of locking your doors because if you don’t, this could happen to you.

A Vancouver man accused of two home invasion robberies in 2011, including one where a woman was bound and attacked, has pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary.

This information was provided by a local out of state News Paper provided and it states that a man named Adam C. Lewis had pled guilty to an assortment of violent crimes ranging from robberies and assault crimes including failing to register as a sex offender.

“THE ARTICLE DID NOT SPECIFY HOW THE INTRUDER GAINED ENTRY EXCEPT TO SAY THAT HE HAD BROKEN IN THREW THE GARAGE.“ If I had to take an educated guess I would assume that the garage door was not locked and from my experience the door connecting the garage to the house was probably unlocked as well! People often take their security for granted and they think like a child in the sense that they will under estimate how vulnerable they are.

Here is the truth however disturbing it maybe!

Not taking the proper security measures for your home and family is just as dangerous as driving with your children in a car un-buckled and or without a seat belt. If you feel that this is an un-likely scenario and that it will probably not happen to you, think again!

The reality is the world we live in posses many risks and home invasions happen regularly. Just because there is no front-page headline don’t think it doesn’t happen. In a world where violent crimes occur and threating our wellbeing, the sooner we acknowledge our vulnerabilities the sooner we will take the necessary actions to prevent people that act like this from destroying lives.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, the number of household burglaries rose by 14 percent last year, and the overall rate of violent crime in the United States increased by 18 percent during 2011. They estimate that we will see a steady rise in crime for the following year. Statistically crime and or criminal activity will go up during a bad economy.

Let this be a wake up call and take advantage of what we have learned which is to always keep all doors shut and locks engaged.
