The first Hyundai company wasfounded in 1947 as a construction company. The largest division of Hyundai is the HyundaiMotor Company, the world's fourth largest automaker.In 2009 Hyundai's Genesis was recognized as 'Car of the Year' in North America. Ranked 69thin 2009 Best Global Brands survey by Business Week / Inter brand and 8th in AutomotiveRanking surpassing Ferrari and Lexus. While the headquarters offices are located in Seoul,Hyundai Motor Company has several manufacturing plants around the country. There are alsoplants worldwide, such as in the USA, Czech Republic, Turkey, Russia and so on.One of the local manufacturing plants is located in Asan city. The Asan Plant, which mainlyproduces passenger vehicles for export, rests on a 440 acres site with a 4 million sq. ft. building

that consists of production lines for machine press, auto frame, paint, assembly, engine and amaterials plant. It is an entirely self-contained independent automobile production complex thatis capable of an output of 30,000 mid to large size passenger vehicles annually. The Asan plantwas established with the grand proposition of creating a safety-first work environment which ispeople oriented.The plant is a large self-sufficient production facility located on a vast area in Asan. Productioncapacity is over 300,000 automobiles per year. The producing models are Grandeur andSonata. The plant is equipped with all the facilities it needs, including the press, the factories forproducing the auto bodies, painting facility, assembly lines, and engine and material factories.The Asan plant, is also called "Robot City", because it is a 90% automated plant, where the only

job for human is to maintain the machines and computers on a 24/7 basis and fit the interior.The robots do the rest. The Asan plant which is the first general auto plant in the region of

Chungcheon is helping the region grow into a new economic and industrial center on thewestern coast of Korea, vitalizing the regional economy. While it is the areas largest employer,it is also the areas biggest contributor, pumping millions of dollars back into the community toimprove schools, infrastructure, and other noteworthy civic projects. The plant encouragesvisitors to take a tour and see firsthand the engineering marvel that takes a coil of steel andtransforms it into an automobile.

2012 Global-Friendship Tour:It was during mid-term exam when our coordinator Miss Kwon emailed us that there will be atour that will be held after the exam. At first, I think of it as an opportunity to just unwind becauseof the pressure that the midterm exam gave me. And so I responded to her email right awaywhich states in this way:

As i read the email, I became so much happy which i can not explain, because it was mygreatest desire to see the car plant and especially that of Hyundai. Actually it was my dream tosee, because we had heard in our country due to privacy and other matters no one is allowed to

get inside and see. So as soon as i raed the mail, at that time i filled the form & applied to availthis golden opportunity.

I was waiting anxiously for May 16, 2012. On Wednesday 16th May, i got up very early andcame to the back of INHA library at 7:35am. At 7:54am I got into the bus & occupied the seatnumber 12 and then got down and was waiting for other friends to get into the bus. Some of ourfriends reached late & we started our journey towards the Asan from INHA at 8:45am.Upon reaching to the Asan plant, we took some photos with the new and attractive Hyundaicars.

The tour guide motions us into the next room where two smart ladies gave us a nice white shirtto wear along with the headphones. After an attractive photo session with the Hyundai logo &cars, we went inside a Hall to listen a video presentation regarding Hyundai motor company &its branches.

After a short fifteen minute video presentation, it was now time to board the tram withheadphones. The headphones were used primarily to hear the tour guide explaining thedifferent departments.The first stop was the unloading docks where trucks haul huge steel coils that were then moldedinto different body components. The components were then welded to the chassis giving thevehicle a "shell." The vehicles were carried on an assembly line to different areas in the plant

where the magic begins. The workers were divided into teams who are responsible for aparticular section of the vehicle. There were those who installed the steering wheel, the dash,seats, as well as someone who sticks the Hyundai emblem on the hood and trunk lid. Hyundaibelieves in quality as well as efficiency, which is why all employees were cross-trained as everytwo hours they switch jobs to break up the monotony. Dont be surprised to see employees wereplaying with smart phones. Employees can spend their breaks in recreation areas throughout

the plant before going back to work.The tour takes us to every area of the plant. We approach final inspection where the vehiclesare given the white glove treatment, literally. These employees donned with their white glovesinspect every nook and cranny as well as trained to detect a trunk or car door that does notclose properly. A new vehicle rolls off the assembly line every 60 seconds where it is taken tothe test track. A two-mile track allows the vehicle to show off its acceleration and braking, beforebeing loaded onto trains and shipped around the country. The tour ends back at the visitorcenter where we returned back the headphones.

After visiting the plant we went for lunch to the Asan Hyundai Car Plant mess. On our way to themess, I was a bit conscious about the food menu. I was thinking what kind of food they willoffer, whether there will be ham or not. But as soon as we entered the mess andheard about the menu from one of our kind guide I exclaimed with joy to know thatthere is fried rice with shrimp, vegetables with out ham. They offer us separate fried

shrimp, fruits, salad and vegetable soup. It was one of my best lunch in Korea whichnot only me but I hope all the friends will remember for ever.

After taking the lunch I went out with my Aljazeera friend Khalid and prayed my Zuhar in theground.

After lunch & we went then to a famous Korean music center, where we enjoyed some nicefunny & traditional Korean performance.

It was totally fun, especially that part was really enjoyable where the actors have thisunknown animal that mimics different animals like dog, dragon and etc. Out of those the mostinteresting part of was when they mimicked the form of snake. The whole Hall laughed and

enjoyed.The actor mimicked each animal very accurately. Since the picture taking was notallowed therefore i can not show how amazing those moments were.

Outside the music center the Hyundai staff entertained us very well by arranging different typesof traditional games. We all played games for about 45 minutes.

The games were so much interesting that Khalid Khan from Aljazire could not control hisemotions and started to take part in almost all types of games inspite of his broken hand.

One of the games remind me my childhood. I do not know the English or Koreanname of the game but in our local language we called so Playing with a tire.

After playing the games for about 45 minutes then the Hyundai staff members calledus and all the students went towards the place where the buses were parked. We gotinto the bus & started our journey back towards the schools. We got a nice Hyundaismall car as a gift too.

It was my first visit to the Asan Hyundai car Plant and i enjoyed every minute of it. The servicewas excellent, attentive yet unobtrusive - it's rare but wonderful when all the factors - service,food and ambience - are encountered together and that's exactly what Hyundai staff did for us.We enjoyed many of the activities, met really nice and welcoming people and are going away a

"few" pounds heavier because of the local food they treated us. This tour was excellent for theauto enthusiast or anyone who enjoys watching an engineering marvel. Most importantly, thetour was FREE like most other attractions.
