    Thus the present study was carriedout to find out its Hypoglycaemic and

    Hypocholesterolaemic effect on

    selected middle aged female NonInsulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus

    (NIDDM) subjects.

    Methodology

    Hundred middle aged female NIDDM subjectswere randomly selected and their nutritionalstatus was assessed by anthropometry,biochemical examination and diet survey

    Biochemical parameters such as FBS,PPBS,HBA1C and Lipid profile were recorded.

    Only co operative subjects were selected for thestudy

    Eight subjects each formed the experimentalgroup (those who were administered the NONIsyrup)and control group (those who were notadministered the NONI syrup)

    The Criteria used for the selection ofthe study subjects were -

    Women in the age group of 35 to 55 years

    Fasting blood glucose >130 mg/dl

    Serum total cholesterol > 230 mg/dl

    Should be co operative for entire study period

    Should donate blood at the beginning and endof the study period (60 days).

    This study was planned for 90 daysand conducted for a period of 60

    days only from december 2007 tofebruary 2008

    The experimental group was given 30

    ml of NONI syrup in two equal doses of15 ml each in the morning beforebreakfast and at bedtime beforedinner.

    This is the standard dose prescribedby Dr P.I. Peter in his Monographs onNONI, 2008.

    Periodic visits by the researcher wastaken up to ensure that the subjectsunder study adhered to the dietary

    regimen and were taking NONI syrup

    regularly.The anthropometric measurementssuch as height and weight were

    measured and the blood sample wasdrawn from the selected subjects on0 day and day 60 of the study period.

    when comparing the weight andBody Mass Index of experimentaland control groups, there was a

    highly significant lowering ofweight and Body Mass Index of theexperimental group as compared to

    the control at one percent level.

    Statistical analysis revealed thatwhen comparing the mean fastingblood glucose, post prandial bloodglucose and HBA1C values of the

    experimental and the controlgroup, there was a highlysignificant lowering of the above

    in the experimental group ascompared to the control at one

    percent level.

    statistically sound for short termstudies then how mind blowing the
