The order of the basic settings presented inthe table is also the order of the settings insetting mode.

The water softenerThe water softener removes minerals fromthe water supply, which would have a

negative effect on the washing results andon the appliance.

The higher the content of these minerals, the harder your water is. Water hardness ismeasured in equivalent scales.

The water softener should be adjustedaccording to the hardness of the water inyour area. Your local water authority canadvise you on the hardness of the water inyour area. It is important to set the rightlevel of the water softener to assure goodwashing results.

Regardless of the type of detergent used, set the proper water hardness level tokeep the salt refill indicator active.

Multi-tabs containing salt are noteffective enough to soften hardwater.

Regeneration process

For the correct water softener operation, theresin of the softener device needs to beregenerated regularly. This process isautomatic and is the part of the normaldishwasher operation.

When the prescribed quantity of water (seevalues in the table) has been used since theprevious regeneration process, a newregeneration process will be initiatedbetween the final rinse and the programmeend.

In case of the high water softener setting, itmay occur also in the middle of theprogramme, before the rinse (twice during a

programme). Regeneration initiation has noimpact on the cycle duration, unless it occursin the middle of a programme or at the endof a programme with a short drying phase. In that cases, the regeneration prolongs thetotal duration of a programme by additional5 minutes.

Subsequently, the rinsing of the watersoftener that lasts 5 minutes may begin inthe same cycle or at the beginning of thenext programme. This activity increases thetotal water consumption of a programme byadditional 4 litres and the total energyconsumption of a programme by additional2 Wh. The rinsing of the softener ends with acomplete drain.

Each performed softener rinse (possiblemore than one in the same cycle) mayprolong the programme duration by another5 minutes when it occurs at any point at thebeginning or in the middle of a programme.

All the consumption valuesmentioned in this section aredetermined in accordance withthe currently applicable standardin laboratory conditions withwater hardness 2.5mmol/Laccording to the 2019/2022regulation (water softener: level3).The pressure and thetemperature of water as well asthe variations of the mains supplycan change the values.

The rinse aid empty notificationThe rinse aid helps to dry the dishes withoutstreaks and stains. It is automaticallyreleased during the hot rinse phase.

ENGLISH 14

Page 15: HYGIENISK - ikea.com

When the rinse aid chamber is empty, therinse aid indicator is turned on notifying torefill rinse aid. If the drying results aresatisfactory while using multi-tablets only, itis possible to deactivate the notification forrefilling rinse aid. However, for best dryingperformance, always use rinse aid.

If standard detergent or multi-tabletswithout rinse aid are used, activate thenotification to keep the rinse aid refillindicator active.

Hints and tips

GeneralFollow the hints below to ensure optimalcleaning and drying results in daily use andto protect the environment.

• Washing dishes in the dishwasher asinstructed in the user manual usuallyconsumes less water and energy thanwashing dishes by hand.

• Load the dishwasher to its full capacity tosave water and energy. For best cleaningresults, arrange items in the baskets asinstructed in the user manual and do notoverload the baskets.

• Do not pre-rinse dishes by hand. Itincreases the water and energyconsumption. When needed, select aprogramme with a prewash phase.

• Remove larger residues of food from thedishes and empty cups and glassesbefore putting them inside the appliance.

• Soak or slightly scour cookware withfirmly cooked-on or baked-on food beforewashing it in the appliance.

• Make sure that items in the baskets donot touch or cover each other. Only thencan the water completely reach and washthe dishes.

ENGLISH 20

Page 21: HYGIENISK - ikea.com

• You can use dishwasher detergent, rinseaid and salt separately or you can use themulti-tablets (e.g. ''All in 1''). Follow theinstructions on the packaging.

• Select a programme according to the typeof load and the degree of soil. ECO offersthe most efficient use of water andenergy consumption.

• To prevent limescale buildup inside theappliance:– Refill the salt container whenever

necessary.– Use the recommended dosage of the

detergent and rinse aid.– Make sure that the current level of

the water softener agrees with thehardness of the water supply.

– Follow the instructions in the chapter "Care and cleaning".

Using salt, rinse aid and detergent• Only use salt, rinse aid and detergent

designed for dishwasher. Other productscan cause damage to the appliance.

• In areas with hard and very hard water,we recommend to use basic dishwasherdetergent (powder, gel, tablets containingno additional agents), rinse aid and saltseparately for optimal cleaning anddrying results.

• Detergent tablets do not fully dissolvewith short programmes. To preventdetergent residues on the tableware, werecommend that you use tablets withlong programmes.

• Always use the correct quantity ofdetergent. Insufficient dosage ofdetergent can result in poor cleaningresults and hard-water filming or spottingon the items. Using too much detergentwith soft or softened water results indetergent residues on the dishes. Adjustthe amount of detergent based on thewater hardness. Refer to the instructionson the detergent packaging.

• Always use the correct quantity of rinseaid. Insufficient dosage of rinse aiddecreases the drying results. Using toomuch rinse aid results in bluish layers onthe items.

• Make sure that the water softener level iscorrect. If the level is too high, theincreased quantity of salt in the watermight result in rust on cutlery.

What to do if you want to stop usingmulti-tabletsBefore you start using separately detergent, salt and rinse aid, complete the followingsteps:

1. Set the highest level of the watersoftener.

2. Make sure that the salt and rinse aidcontainers are full.

3. Start the Quick 30' programme. Do notadd detergent and do not put dishes inthe baskets.

4. When the programme is completed, adjust the water softener according tothe water hardness in your area.

5. Adjust the released quantity of rinse aid.

Before starting a programmeBefore you start the selected programme, make sure that:

• The filters are clean and correctlyinstalled.

• The cap of the salt container is tight.• The spray arms are not clogged.• There is enough salt and rinse aid (unless

you use multi-tablets).• The arrangement of the items in the

baskets is correct.• The programme is suitable to the type of

load and the degree of soil.• The correct quantity of detergent is used.

Loading the baskets

Refer to the supplied leaflet withexamples of the load of thebaskets.

• Always use the whole space of thebaskets.

• Use the appliance to wash dishwasher-safe items only.
