River Flow Control

HydroSlide®

Over recent years there has been an increase in flooding within the UK. It is increasingly necessary to regulate the run-off from developments in to local watercourses, or even regulate flows within rivers to prevent / reduce downstream flooding.

The HydroSlide® Mini Vario can be used for controlling flows within Attenuation pods / watercourse systems. The maximum head that can be controlled with a constant discharge is relative to the diameter of the control. To provide general guidance the table below provides an outline

of the standard units. For designs outside this, special control can be provided.

The flow rate can be adjusted by a minimum ± 30% by external adjustment facility, permitting a large degree of tuning following site installation if required.

The adjacent table provides the standard range of units; however, specials can be provided to suit particular scheme requirements. The Mini HydroSlide® can be supplied in sizes from 100 mm to 2400 mm, but for the purposes of river control only those capable of controlling from 1000 l/s have been shown.

HydroMaxx®, is an active flow control unit, mounted on the upstream face of an attenuation dam wall and takes the form of a movable plate controlled by a specially designed and patented regulator mechanism using a vertically moving float whose movement keeps the flow constant irrespective of water level.

The photograph shows the HydroMaxx® construction within a 15 m high dam structure. In this particular instance the outflow is regulated to a maximum 2,400 l/s. This is a constant discharge throughout the required head range.

The outlet aperture is regulated by vertically operating float which varies the aperture shutter to maintain the flow rate relative to the water level.
