Thecourseextendstheknowledgeacquiredin“HydrologyI”intheundergraduateprogramme.Itconsistsofthreemainsections.

Thefirstsectionaddressesthemonitoringofhydrologicalprocessesandtheanalysisofhydrologicaldata,focusingonpointandspaceobservationsofhydro-climaticvariables,radarmeasurementofprecipitation,satelliteremotesensingforuseinhydrology,monitoringnetworkdesign,procedurestofillinmissingdataanddisaggregationtechniques.

Thesecondsection focuseson precipitationanalysisandmodelling,runoffproductionfrom soil-rainfallinteraction, andthedescriptionoftheenergyandmassexchangebetweenthesurfaceandtheatmospherethatleadstolossesofwaterthroughevaporationandtranspiration.Therelevantprocessesarediscussedandseveral(advanced)methodstomodelthemarepresented.

Thethirdsection onsurfacerunoffconcentrationaddressestheroleplayedbytheriverdrainagenetworkfocusingonmodellingthenetworkresponsebymeansofgeomorphologicalandnonlineartransferfunctions,andintroducestheconceptofdeterministicvs(stochastic)simulationbasedrunoffpredictions.
