    One basic valve

The valves are hydraulically operated automatic valve that

combines the simplicity and reliability of a diaphragm valve

with the control capabilities of a pilot operated, self-actingregulator. The unique design of the valve optimizes both flow

capacity and control. The revolutionary body design provides

a streamlined flow path and incorporates the multi-functional

oval diaphragm in an efficient hydrodynamic design. This

design provides superior resistance to cavitation and erosion

and insures smooth flow without turbulence or noise.

At the heart of the valve lies the unique oval diaphragm, which

is capable of opening and closing at 0.4 bar, as well as normal

operation up to 16 bar. The valves incomparable versatility

offers pressure reduction over a wide range of flows. Other

valves have limitations and require special accessories or different

diaphragms to achieve optimum results. Ooval valves greaterrange of flows overcomes these restrictions, providing immediate

solutions for general water supply and irrigation.

Oovalvalves are self-acting, pilot operateddiaphragm control valve that provides remarkable

benefits and unparalleled value in both basic

    on/off operations and sophisticated functions,

    controlling pressures, levels and flows.

Dependable ControlDesign based on simplicity. Engineered to perform under the most demandingconditions. Each valve assures a controlled close, which minimizes water hammer and

absorbs the pressure shock caused by system shut-off.

High Efficiency Low Head LossThe flow path is wide and clear of obstructions for superior hydraulic performanceand lower pressure loss.

Pressure Reduction Over A Wide Flow RangeOoval valves are capable of reducing pressures at extremely low flow rates as wellas high flow rates due to the multi-functional oval diaphragm. The same diaphragmcan open, close, and reduce pressures down to 0.4 bar.

Protective CoatingThe interior and exterior of the valve are treated with a pliable electrostatic spraypolyester coating that will not chip, is rust resistant, and stands up to sun, salt andother corrosive elements. The coating process includes pre-treatment blasting, electrostatic spraying of polyester, and oven-heated curing to bond the paint.

Easy MaintenanceThe Ooval valves requires minimal maintenance. The valve never needs to be removedfrom the line. The bonnet is easily removed revealing the diaphragm and spring thatmay require upkeep.

Hydraulic AccessoriesOoval offers a complete line of multi-purpose pilots and accessories. By combiningOoval valves with precise hydraulic accessories, solutions to both common and morecomplex valve requirements are readily attained. The plastic pilot in particular, hasnew innovative features, not available in similar type products, such as larger passagesfor quick reaction time and non-breakable directional assembly.

All Ooval valves controlles by standard 3-way pilots, 2-way control pilots is also and

    accesories.

Standard valves can be controlled by Manual, Electric, Pressure Reducing, PressureSustaining/Relief, Hydraulic Relay, and Quick Reacting Pressure Relief.

Additional valve control features include Surge Anticipating-Quick Relief, Pump Control,Flow Rate Control, Two Stage Opening, Float Control, and Check Valve options.

    Pressure Reducing Valve

    Applications

    Ooval reducing configurations for general

water supply systems with medium pressure

rating. The plastic pilot model is best forirrigation and low-pressure applications. The

    plastic materials and straightforward design

provide high corrosion resistance and cost-

effective prices. The 2-way pilot configuration,

together with the unique diaphragm, enables

    smooth and precise pressure control.

Use Ooval valves for domestic, water works, and filtration networks.

    Description

Ooval valves are piloted hydraulic valves activatedby line pressure. The pilot valve has a spring-loadeddiaphragm that is sensitive to downstream pressure. The pilots spring is preset to the desired reducedpressure. The pilot valve maintains a constantdownstream pressure by gradually opening andclosing the Ooval valves at any flow rate.

Available Models 3-way Pressure Reducing Valve for sizes 2-6with pressure ratings up to 145 PSI (10 bars). 2-way Pressure Reducing Valve with pressurerating up to 232 PSI (16 bars).

Adjustment Adjust the reduced pressure set point with theadjusting screw on the pilot.

FunctionThe Ooval Pressure Reducing Valve is activated byline pressure and controlled by the pilot valve. Thepilot includes a spring-loaded diaphragm that isexposed to the downstream pressure. Thedisplacement of the membrane due to downstreamfluctuation defines the flow direction inside thepilot. When the downstream pressure is lower thandesired, the valve is automatically directed to open.In the reverse case, it is automatically directed to

close. When line pressure is inserted into the controlchamber of the valve (above its diaphragm) thevalve closes. When the control chamber drains, thevalve opens as a result of the line pressure frombelow its diaphragm. In two-way configurations, the control chamber drains downstream, enablingfaster reaction time and gradual opening withoutwater discharge.

    Control Mode 3-way Plastic Pilot

Manual: Use the three-way selector to closeor open the valve by turning the handle to C(closed) or O (open) positions.Automatic: Position the three-way selectorhandle to A (automatic). When the downstream

pressure is lower than that of the pilot spring, the valves control chamber drains via ports 3and 2 of the pilot to open the valve. When thedownstream pressure is too high, the pilotdiaphragm moves upward allowing ports 3and 4 to connect, thus permitting line pressureto close the valve.

In three-way configurations, the controlchamber drains out to atmosphere, permittingthe valve to open entirely.

    Control Mode 2-way Pilot

Manual: To open the Ooval, open isolationvalves 1 and 2. To close the Ooval, close thedownstream isolation valve.Automatic: When the downstream pressureis lower than that of the pilot spring, the control

chamber drains downstream and the valveopens. In this case, there is a connectionbetween the port 3 (inlet upstream), the port1 or 2 (outlet downstream) and the controlchamber. When the downstream pressure risesabove the preset spring load, the pilotsdiaphragm is forced upward, closing port 1or 2. The valve then begins closing anddownstream pressure decreases.

    Pressure Sustaining / Relief Valve

    Applications

Use the pressure sustaining/relief valve to

maintain constant upstream pressure and to

avoid undesirable high-pressure situations. Thisprotection is required for most irrigation

systems, domestic and industrial utilities, and

for general water supply systems. The 3-way

plastic pilot model provides high resistance to

corrosion at a cost effective price. It is best for

    irrigation, filtration manifolds, water treatment

    circulation and low-pressure domestic

applications. The 2-way pilot command provides

    smooth and precise pressure control.

DescriptionThe pilot valve has a spring-loaded diaphragm thatis exposed to upstream pressure. The valve isnormally closed. With Pressure Relief Valves, onlywhen the line pressure rises above a preset pointdoes the valve open to reduce the excessiveupstream pressure. The excess pressure is releasedoff-line. Pressure Sustaining Valves reduce theexcessive downstream pressure without causingsurge hazards. When the line pressure drops beneaththe desired point, the valve closes.

Available Models 3-way plastic piloted pressure sustaining/relief

valve for sizes 2-6 with pressure rating up to 145PSI (10 bars). 2-way Pressure Sustaining/Relief Valve withpressure rating up to 232 PSI (16 bars).

Adjustment Adjust the sustained pressure with the adjustmentscrew on the pilot.

FunctionThe Pressure Sustaining/ Relief Valve is activatedby the line pressure and controlled by a pilot valve.A sustained pressure is preset by adjusting the pilotretaining spring. The pilot is connected to line

pressure (upstream). The displacement of the pilotsspring-loaded diaphragm due to upstream pressuredefines the flow direction inside the pilot. Whenthe upstream pressure is higher than the set point, the valve is piloted to open. Otherwise the valveremains closed, maintaining the upstream pressure. The excess line pressure is relieved downstream. In3-way pilot configurations, the valve control chamberdrains out, enabling the valve to open fully. In 2-way pilot configurations, the control chamber drainsdownstream, enabling faster reaction time andgradual closure without water discharge.

    Control Mode 3-way Plastic Pilot

Manual: Use the three-way selector to closeor open the valve by turning the handle to C(closed) or O (open) positions.Automatic: Position the three-way selectorhandle to A (automatic). When the upstream

pressure is low, the pilots membrane is in itslowest position. The valves control chamberis exposed to line pressure through ports 2-3 of the pilot. The valve closes to sustain theupstream pressure. When the upstream pressureis higher than preset, the pressure overcomesthe pilots spring and forces the pilotsdiaphragm to move upward. The connectionbetween ports 3-4 opens and port 2 closes. The control chamber drains and the valve opensto relieve the excessive pressure downstream. In 3-way configurations, the control chamberdrains out to atmosphere, permitting the valveto open entirely.

    Control Mode 2-way Pilot

Manual: To open the valve, open isolationvalves 1 and 2. To close the valve, close thedownstream isolation valve. The upstreamisolation valve should remain open.Automatic: When the upstream pressure is

lower than that of the sustained pressure setpoint, the valves control chamber is connectedto the line. This connection occurs throughports 1 or 2 (inlet upstream) and port 3. Thevalve closes until the desired upstream pressureis achieved. When the upstream pressure risesabove the set point, the pilots diaphragm isforced upward. Port 5 (outlet downstream)opens and the control chamber of the Oovaldrains downstream, alleviating the excesspressure.

    Applications

Use the pressure reducing/sustaining valve to

define two pressure zones along a supply line.

Typically, this occurs along a downhill flow.

DescriptionPressure Reducing/Sustaining valves are pilotedhydraulic valves activated by line pressure andcontrolled by pilots. Both pilots have spring-loadeddiaphragms. One pilot is responsive to upstreampressure and the other to downstream pressure. The combined operation of the two pilot valvessustains the preset minimum upstream pressureof the valve, and at the same time, reduces thedownstream pressure to a preset maximumpressure. The valve opens or closes gradually tomaintain both required pressures simultaneously.

Available Models 3-way plastic piloted Pressure Reducing/Sustainingvalve. Plastic pilot is used for 2-6 sizes withpressure rating up to 145 PSI (10 bar). 2-way pressure Reducing/Sustaining valve withpressure rating up to 232 PSI (16 bars).

Adjustment Adjust the pressure set points with the adjustingscrews on the pilots.

    Function

The Pressure Reducing/Sustaining valve is activatedby the line pressure and controlled by two pilotvalves. Both pilots include spring-loadeddiaphragms. The sustaining pilot is preset to sustainthe upstream pressure at a preset point. Thereducing pilot reduces the downstream pressureand maintains it at a lower preset level. Undernormal flow conditions, the valve is partly open tosustain the upstream pressure and reduce thedownstream pressure. It partly closes when thedownstream pressure rises above the lower setpoint or when the line pressure drops below theupper set point. It opens again when the upstreampressure rises. In 3-way pilot configurations, the

control chamber of the valve drains out toatmosphere, enabling the valve to fully open.In 2-way pilot configurations the control chamberdrains downstream, enabling faster reaction timeand gradual opening without water discharge.

    Pressure Reducing/Sustaining Valve

    7

    Control Mode 3-way Plastic Pilot

Manual: Use the three-way selector to closeor open the valve by turning the handle to C(closed) or O (open) positions.Automatic: Position the three-way selectorhandle to A (automatic). When the upstream

pressure is low, the line pressure flows throughports 2-3 of the sustaining pilot and flowsinto the valves control chamber. The valvecloses to sustain upstream pressure. When theupstream pressure reaches the set point, thediaphragm of the reducing pilot moves upwardand connects ports 2-3. The control chamberdrains through the sustaining pilot and exitsport 2 of the reducing pilot. The valve thenopens to the preset downstream pressure. When the downstream pressure is greater thenthe desired level, the reducing pilots diaphragmmoves up, allowing water to flow into thecontrol chamber through ports 4-3 of thesustaining pilot.

    Control Mode 2-way Pilot

Manual: To open the valve, open isolationvalves 1 and 2. To close the Valve close thedownstream isolation valve. The upstreamisolation valve should remain open.Automatic: When the upstream pressure is

low, the control chamber is connected throughthe 2-way sustaining pilot to the line pressureand the valve closes. When the line pressurerises and overcomes the spring of the sustainingpilot, the pilots membrane moves upward toopen port 5 (outlet downstream). The controlchamber then drains downstream through the2-way reducing pilot. The valve then opensand reduces the upstream pressure. As the linepressure is reduced, the sustaining pilot closes,as does the valve. If the downstream pressureis greater than the set point of the reducingpilot, the reducing pilots membrane movesupward and closes port 1 or 2 (outletdownstream). The control chamber is connected

to the upstream pressure and the valve closes.

    Quick Pressure Relief Valve

ApplicationsA Quick Pressure Relief Valve (QPR) protectswater systems from rapidly increasing excess

pressure. It is recommended to install the OovalQPR valve at the start of the system near themain supply line or booster pump.

DescriptionThe Pressure Relief Valve is a piloted hydraulic valveactivated by line pressure. The 2-way pilot has aspring-loaded diaphragm that is sensitive toupstream pressure. The valve is normally closed. Asthe line pressure rises above the preset level, thevalve opens quickly to relieve the excess pressure.

    Available Models

The valve is a general application 2-way pilotedPressure Relief Valve with a pressure rating up to232 PSI (16 bars).

FunctionThe Pressure Relief Valve is activated by line pressure. The displacement of the diaphragm in the pilot isdue to a rise in line pressure against the springforce. As the pressure increases above the set point, the water flow inside the pilot is directed so thatthe valve quickly opens.

Control ModeAutomatic: When the line pressure is low, the sustaining pilot and thevalve are closed by line pressure. The valve remains closed until the linepressure is higher than the set point of the pilot. As pressure increasesabove the set point, the diaphragm moves upward under the line pressureand port 5 (outlet downstream) of the pilot opens, allowing the controlchamber to drain through the vent. The Ooval opens in a few secondsrelieving the excess pressure.

    Electric Control Hydraulic Valve

ApplicationsOn/Off electric valves are used for remotecontrol of hydraulic valves. Normally open or

    normally closed configurations are available.

DescriptionThe valve opens or closes by electric commandthrough a selection of either 2-way or 3-waysolenoid valves. The solenoid opens or closes thevalve when energized by an electric signal. Theelectric signal originates with a controller, timer, sensor or remote control device.

Available ModelsThree-way normally closed and 3-way normallyopen electric control valve.

Two-way normally closed and 2-way normally openelectric control valve.

Function2-way configuration:The valves control chamberdrains downstream, enabling faster and gradualopening without water discharge.3-way configuration: The valve control chamberdrains to atmosphere, allowing the valve to openfully.

Control ModeNormally Closed Mode: The line pressure isconnected to the Oovals control chamber above

its diaphragm via port P (pressure) and port C(common). The diaphragm is pressed downwardagainst the valve seat closing the valve. As anelectric signal energizes the normally open (NO)solenoid, its plunger changes position and thecontrol chamber drains out through port V (vent). The diaphragm is forced upward by the line pressureand the valve fully opens.Normally Open Mode: The valves controlchamber is connected to portC (common) of thesolenoid. The valves diaphragm is pressed upwardby line pressure keeping the valve in the openposition. As the normally closed (NC) solenoid isenergized by an electric signal, its plunger changes

position and the vent closes. The control chamberof the valve becomes connected to the pressuresource via port P (pressure) and port C and thevalve closes.

    Hydraulic Remote Control Valve

ApplicationsUse valve with a hydraulic remote control inthose situations where the command pressureis lower or higher then the working pressureor in situations where there are topographicdifferences between the command source andthe line water pressure at the valve. Thehydraulic remote control is also used wherethe use of wires is not feasible.

DescriptionOn/Off hydraulic remote control valves are usedfor the remote control of hydraulic valves. In normallyclosed (NC) configurations, the valve remains closeduntil the hydraulic relay receives a hydrauliccommand. In the normally open (NO) model, the

valve is open until the hydraulic relay receives ahydraulic command to close.

Available ModelsNormally open and normally closed configurationsare available. Operating pressure is up to 145 PSI(10 bars). A pressure regulating or pressuresustaining pilot may be used in conjunction withthe hydraulic relay.

FunctionThe valve is activated by line pressure and controlledby the hydraulic relay. The relay includes a spring-loaded diaphragm that determines the pressurerequired to activate the command. In the normallyclosed operation (NC), the line pressure is connectedto the valves control chamber keeping the valveclosed. In the reverse case (NO), the valve remainsin the open position.

Control ModeNormally Closed Mode: In normally closedapplications, when the command is received byway of port 1, the line pressure port 2 is preventedfrom entering the control chamber through theconnection between port 2-4 and the water inthe control chamber drains through port 3, causingthe valve to open.Normally Open Mode: In normally openapplications, port 3 connects to the upstream linepressure and water is prevented from entering thebonnet. When the command is received by way ofport 1, port 3 connects to port 4 and the valvecloses.

Basic ValveBasic valve can be operated manuallythrough the use of a 3-way selector.Selector options are:Closed: Upstream pressure orpressure from an external source isapplied to the control chamber. Thediaphragm is pressed down to closethe valve drip-tight.Open: Discharging the water or airpressure to the atmosphere from thecontrol chamber causes the valve toopen.Automatic: The automatic port ofthe 3-way selector is connected toa solenoid, hydraulic relay or pilot, which controls the valve. Thecommon port of the 3-way selectorconnects the control chamber toeither A (automatic), O (open) or C(closed), depending on the directionthe selector is pointed.

    Standard Valves

Pressure ReducingMaintains a constant downstream pressure regardless of upstream pressureor flow rate fluctuations. The set point of reduced pressure is adjustable bya 3-way pilot valve. A spring-loaded diaphragm inside the pilot moves

according to the downstream pressure changes. The pressure fluctuationsare compensated by gradual opening and closing of the valve.

Pressure Sustaining/ReliefMaintains the minimum preset upstream pressure regardless of changesof pressure in downstream or flow rate. Pressure relief is a sustaining valvethat releases excess flow from the system.

Quick Reacting Pressure ReliefA safety valve that opens instantly, but closes slowly to protect the systemagainst excessive pressure.

ManualOpens and closes manually by means of a 3-way selector.

ElectricValve opens or closes in response to an electric command using a3-way solenoid.

Hydraulic Relay with Shastomit or GalitA relay installed on the valve in the field is activated by a solenoid at the

    control station.

Pressure Reducing/SustainingThe combined operation of the two pilots sustains a constant pressureupstream of the valve, and at the same time, reduces the downstreampressure to a preset pressure. Both pilots have spring-loaded diaphragms. One pilot is sensitive to upstream pressure and the other to downstreampressure. The valve opens or closes gradually to maintain both requiredpressures simultaneously.

    Specialty Valves

Altitude Control ValveUsed to maintain a preset water level in a reservoir or water tank. The valveis activated by line pressure according to the hydrostatic pressure. The valvestays open as long as the water level of the reservoir is below a preset level. As the water level rises, the valve gradually closes.

Electric Float Control ValveThe valve is a normally closed electric float control valve. A float hanging overthe water surface at the desired height switches the electric circuit. When thewater level drops below the float, the electric circuit is switched on and opens

the valve through a solenoid valve. As the rising water reaches the float level, the circuit is disconnected and the valve closes.

Flow Rate Control ValveThe flow rate through the valve is determined indirectly using an orifice plate.Normally the valve is partly open to allow a preset constant flow rate. The

pressure loss across the orifice is proportional to the actual flow rate. Uponincreasing pressure loss, the valve is automatically piloted to close. When thepressure drops, the valve opens and the flow rate is maintained in spite ofthe line pressure fluctuations or the downstream demand.

Float Level Control ValveUsed to maintain a preset water level in a reservoir or water tank. The linepressure activates the valve. The valve stays open as long as the water levelin the reservoir is below a preset level. As the water level rises and floats thepilots arm, the valve gradually closes.
