An Introduction to Hydraulic Machines

Just recently, I attended this workshop titled ‘Hydraulics Crane’ where I learnt to make cranes.

This concept, called Hydraulics in Physics and Science, works with the power of Liquid Pressure.

Here I’m going to explain it all to you, along with pictures and videos of my Crane.

I will also be telling you how you can make your own cranes.

So, Enjoy!

Explanation in physics

Here is the basic idea of how it all works:

When you push the cylinder, it pushes the water, which results in output force at the other end,

causing the cylinder at the other end to rise.

This is how most cranes,Diggers, caterpillars and lifters work.

Real life explanation

If you’re a practical learner, you probably wouldn’t have understood what I droned on about at the last slide. Here’s how you’ll understand it: Through an experiment!

You’ll need:-Two syringes(the 5ml ones) -A pipe (known as drip tubes)-A container filled with water-a pencil

What to do:-Widen the ends of your pipe using a pencil.-Fill your syringes with water from the container.-Connect both syringes to the pipe. If they don’t, widen the pipe some more.-Press one end of the syringe. The other end will rise!See? That’s how hydraulics work.

You’ll understand it better this way!

How it Works

When you press this end of the syringe…

…This end pops out!

And when you pull this end…

…This one goes in!

Want to make your own crane?

Did you like my crane? I hope you did. If you’re interested in making a crane yourself, here’s what you can do:

Contact me at [email protected], where I’ll give you tips on how to make one.

Experiment on your own with wood and syringes. Who knows, you might end up making your own crane!!!

That’s all, guys…

THANK YOU!!!
