HEAVENLY WORK,EARTHLY WALK

Part 2 - Purchased by ChristEphesians 1:7-10

BIG IDEA: God’s grace is bigger than our disgrace.

OVERVIEW: Jesus purchased our redemption.

OPENING:• How did you learn the importance of forgiveness?• Whatkindofoffensedoyoufindmostdifficulttoforgive?• How do you feel when you need forgiveness by somebody who is unwilling to forgive you? SCRIPTURE:Read Ephesians 1:7-10

• “In him we have redemption.” John indicated there are two words that get translated; redemption, one to buy out of the marketplace, the other is to set us free from bondage. Paul used the latter word, why do you think Paul used that word?

• Look at the description of redemption in Galations 3:13, how does this compare to Ephesians 1:7?

Thought to consider: Redemption is only one word that describes what happens in salvation. Look at these other words and discuss how these terms can describe our salvation.

5 aspects of redemption in Ephesians 1:6-10

1. There is a redeemer. Who is the redeemer and what do you know about the redeemer?2. There are those who are redeemed. Who are the redeemed and what do we know about the redeemed?3. There is a price for redemption. What was the price and why is that the price?4. There are results of the redemption. What are the results? Read Ps. 103:12; Isa 44:225. There is a reason for redemption. Why did God redeem us? “To bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.” REFLECTIONJohn talked about the abundance of God’s grace as described in Romans 5:20. “But the law came in order that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded all the more.” Why did God give us the law? How does God’s grace respond to our disgrace? Why do people need to know about God’s grace?
