Gradual Easing of Currency Control

On September 14th, 2016 the NaAonal Bank of Ukraine adopted ResoluAon № 386 "On amendments to some regulaAons of the NBU" with regard to the liberalizaAons of certain restricAons existed on the Ukrainian foreign currency market. NaAonal Bank of Ukraine (NBU) increased the amount of cash in foreign currency and precious metals, which customers may withdraw per day. Now the customers of banks may withdraw cash from their current and deposit accounts in equivalent up to UAH 250.000 day. Previously, the threshold amounted to UAH 100.000. NBU also allows resident companies, which received non-‐residents' loans or returnable financial assistance, to buy foreign currency to pay off relevant debt, even if they have on their own accounts a foreign currency in excess of US$ 25.000. However, it is allowed only if the purchased foreign currency and the foreign currency on the accounts of a purchaser will be simultaneously used to pay off the debt. Earlier the purchasing of foreign currency to pay off a debt was prohibited if a borrower has foreign currency on its account in excess of US$ 25.000, but not in the amount sufficient to pay of the debt. Marked changes came into force on September 15th, 2016 and will be valid unAl December 15, 2016.
