Sherry Turkle argue that technology will make us feel less alone but at the same time she argues that the opposite is true as well...

‣Questions for discussion

What does she mean??

Turkle also points at our habit of constant connections and how this shapes a new way of being.

“I share therefor I am”Do you recognize yourself in her descriptions?

‣Questions for discussion

Nicholas Carrs draws on Marshall McLuhans earlier work (in the 1960’s) saying that media is not passive channels of information. Rather media supply the stuff of thought and shapes the process.

Do you agree with thees arguments?

Why? Why not? And how?

First of all, I doubt that we will even talk about digital

communication as "social media", It will be too well done by that time

so we will probably just talk about "communication" or

"conversation". But I guess that we will have great tools for managing

different kinds of conversations, like instant translation and flexible

visualisation. The interaction will be totally based on the prerequisites

of the human body and probably feel as natural as ever.
